BTW: I reached out to Cameron at Kingston about this, just to get a manufacturer's opinion. (I also invited him to join the forum as Kingston has been very helpful with demos and stuff.) Same as what the experts here have said. 🙂

    He said:
TRIM is not as critical today as it was several years ago. The SSD controllers now do a good job at garbage collection which is effectively trying to accomplish the same thing by trying to keep the invalid data areas empty for new writes to come in efficiently. We've studied the performance affects of TRIM in our labs here at Kingston and have found that most reputable SSD manufacturers today are making SSD's that perform well whether TRIM is enabled or not on the operating system.

TRIM support is definitely necessary from a marketing standpoint but less necessary from a technical stand point at this point in time.

Wait wait, so you are saying no F500 company is running Office 2010 or earlier?

I say this all of the time. RAID 5, even with small high end SAS drives, rarely gets better than 99% chance of successfully not losing your data. 1% chance of losing data is way, way higher risk than business side people are generally led to believe their RAID will protect them against.

I believe that Incinga has really picked up speed and is the more popular approach now. Just less to deal with.

AD integrated password manager? No thanks. I use KeePass and it's synced to a cloud drive. I need to get to the passwords even if everything is down. Unless this thing offers some off site version of it and to use cached credentials.

It does, there is a mobile app.

I use Pantheon for all of my site building and I have two sites hosted there. It's a great service.

ozone or new electronics getting warm?

    Any hot spots on it?

Don't forget it'll be going like stink right now charging up that battery

    Nothing warmer than expected.

The battery is listed as 77% full.

I think you're fine unless it's really horrendous - probably just all the components warming up for the first time. Those things really suck down some current when charging the battery and running the PC.

This, I did this in an enclosed small room and the smell of ozone was overpowering when first bringing up fresh out-of-the-box UPSs (Eatons) not sure if it is normal or not but there were no long term effects. Other then having to leave the door open for a few days.

Damn a few days? ug! I rarely leave my door open...

After the first day it was still barely noticeable by no means strong or overpowering. By the third day it was gone.

My door is the control door to our data closet. I rarely leave it open, even when I'm inside. So I suppose I've trapped the smell in here with me.

I'll leave the door open while I'm here today and we'll see what happens.

and damnit.. now I have to go fishing for the box..

I guess that makes it an Undead cat... Better go bury it in Pet Cemetary again.

But then it'll come back even more Satan cat like

Actually we have a static html site which is shared with clients just to give them a feel of the site before we move to production. And its enabled with directory browsing and you know how it looks. Just to have a decent look, we were checking on options and found Apaxy, its super easy and nothing to install, just download, extract files, make changes on htaccess file mentioning the path and thats it. Looks way better than the traditional listing.

I'd start by replacing that 😉

    BUT I DON'T WANT TO!!!!!!

You don't have to... but that is going to be a limiting factor in a number of ways. Especially when you are looking at management or want to expand your infrastructure.

    Or performance, ease of use....
