I know that experience.
They were told specifically to cancel my account and delete it (I wasn't subscribed to any of their spam lists at the time either).

All was good for several months, and then HELLO! the spam started arriving.

Unsubscribing does nothing, you have to login/change your preferences and completely change eveything in the account.

Use a random password generator for the email address...
