I know this is more of an HR problem than an IT problem, but my boss is insisting.

Yeah the ball and chain issue.... I've not found anything decent for iOS either. I tend to just keep the battery on the device low or pretend the battery has died and needs charging.

      Fixed double quote

      Edit

This is for an older iPAD, I know the newer ones have this built in... but you know $

Just wondering if any of you with more experience with Roaming Profiles can explain this behaviour.

There's an old Roaming Profiles set-up that's been dragged along through the years and we're wanting to senset it.

One thing we're seeing is that for users who's roaming Profiles write-back haven't been working, (maybe permission error on some files) if we do something that might trigger it to star working again (like add folder exclusion), their local profile gets nuked.

It seems like this is only an issue with roaming Profiles that haven't been working, if they've been working, any changes we've made hadn't had the affect off killing the local profile and starting fresh.

I've check for any GPO settings that might be asking for the local profile to be deleted, but I haven't found anything. From what I understand, the profiles should only be merging.

Has anyone else seen behaviour like this before where a roaming profile goes from not working to working and it kills the local copy?

It's been a long, long time since I touched anything with roaming profiles. Just about everyone uses redirected folders now if they need that sort of functionality, and this is one of the reasons. Roaming profiles just proved very buggy historically.

man, I dislike redirecting things like the desktop... it's no longer a local folder and makes using it as a scratch pad super slow...

Ever since I embraced using OneDrive and Nextcloud, I would use junctions points. Folders like Desktop, Documents and so on would be stored in the OneDrive or Nextcloud folder and then I would use junction points. The user shell folders paths will still stay the same.

      This is what I do.

I believe most tutorials are written to get something up and running with as few steps as possible, assuming there will be no variances that create differences from the norm in a lab, and the person who wrote the tutorial expects the person reading the tutorial only wants it to work, rather than understand how and why it works, along with how to configure it for different scenarios; and the the writer must also believe the reader has no issues with run-on sentences.

If you ever see one of mine like that, call me the fuck out on it.

Didn't read; sentence is too short 🙂

Oh, and I will, just for you!

Yeah, I guess I could see if for scheduling less critical stuff. It does seem like their plan is to flesh out Automation with more polished tools, but Runbooks seems pretty lacking in features.

I did look I to Automation DSC, but I kind of doubt that's ever going to be a good idea for Linux. Ubuntu 16.04 is supported but not 18.04. And it sounded like on Linux, you can't have the Azure Monitor agent and the PS DSC agent installed on the same system.

IT Admin / Software Developer seems most accurate. What are you engineering in IT? Are you software engineering or developing?

In IT, I engineer production and test environments. I do administration if there is something that has to get escalated to me.

Software developer would probably be more accurate. Some projects I am mostly just a developer, on others I participate in the engineering.

It kind of sounds like DevOps more than IT admin

I got the impression that it was discrete roles. Writing code under one hat, doing IT under another.

That was my impression as well.

And that is true, for the most part.

Per my VAR, shared activation is available on any ProPlus subscription (ProPlus, E3 or E5). All users that are going to use the shared system have to be licensed with a ProPlus subscription for it to work. I am going to have to go this route to use RDS for our ERP software, which requires Microsoft Excel for exporting certain reports/info. Since we have business premium for 99% of our users, we will need to "upgrade" to E3 for all users that need access to the ERP software via RDS server. Currently 32 users.

I think that this is driving a lot of "multi-RDS" deployments where some people are on the MS Office RDS server and some are on the non-Office server.

Also how big of an SMB are we talking about? A company with 10 employees is very different from one with 100 employees.

The cost of something custom is the same but a larger company can make more use of it and as such it creates more value for them, hence they are more inclined to invest in it.

I've developed a custom application when working for a 100+ employee company, so that's kind of where my mind heads.
