I've had an approval process before to get things paid that are reoccurring. AV was one example, annual bill.

Every time "Dustin do we really need AntiVirus?" Yes, yes we do, Its approved "OK well I just have to check with one more person..." they come back to me "Dustin do we really need AntiVirus?"

      See how this goes....

@scottalanmiller said in Broadcom Acquired VMware: Does KVM Have a Chance?:

@Oksana Does KVM have a chance? It's the only game in town. VMware is such a backwater of out of date, out of touch, "why would anyone use this" tech. If you use KVM, then you use VMware, it's like going from living in a beach front mansion to a caveman's cave where they are still pooping in a dark corner in the back.

VMware has been dead tech for years. It's so antiquated like they think it is the 2005 era.

XCP-ng is picking up a ton of customers as well, since there is a support model behind it.

Yeah, two great (and free) solutions on the market, and VMware that is costly and requires so much overhead to manage and maintain. It's such a disaster.

Broadcom just cancelled the free version of ESXi as well, so any small customer shops are just going to migrate, they have too.

The sick part is "When Mike did not die, Olsen instead decided to care for the bird. He fed it a mixture of milk and water via an eyedropper, and gave it small grains of corn."

      Olsen is a psycho

If you explain clearly what the monitor is for, and what it can't do to your client they should never blame you for it.

have you had similar experiences with this client?

      @johnhooks said:

So I figured it out. Just like most every other problem I've had, it was something stupid I did. I initially started with a user "john" and set up permissions but decided later to use "jhooks". I had accessed the shares with the "john" username first and that's why some worked. I never added the jhooks username to samba (must have forgot since some shares were working) and that's why I couldn't log into the other shares with that username.

That will teach me to try to do this stuff on Friday night when I'm tired.

Well worse things have happened, it could've been a client outage 🙂

    • How come my users never understand the simple things..

How come my users never understand the simple things, like how to connect to the VPN. Launch the application, click connect, enter your password.

Or "can you open the remote support tool, teamviewer?" and the response I get is "What's Teamviewer"

Now granted we have alternative ways to get to their machine when they aren't on site but come on....

    • Proposed Session: configuring RAID 10 on XenServer using MDADM

So as we're building a script, with the intention of running xenserver from a USB drive, and using the built in mdadm functionality. It would be pretty awesome to showcase this.

The benefits of mdadm and how, as a Software RAID combined with a great hypervisor make for a really powerful solution.

In the case we're building this it's a simple 4 disk Software RAID system. Purchasing a hardware raid controller is out the question. So mdadm is the only option.
