I hated zulip for the same thing, sad to hear the Rocketchat. So push notifications is only affecting mobile users or all users ?

Mobile users. And all their info is fuzzy. They've not exposed metrics to know what you use, and they keep saying you have to register but even putting in quite a bit of time to do so, I can't find any registration information. Their forums are full of people complaining that there is no transparency, the limits are BS, and nothing works. But that's all the info I can find.

I saw this yesterday - I don't have any users in my SfB and I'm the only person in my O365 account - so hopefully it will just STFU and stay quit now. 🙂

Of the janky company IM setups, I've typically noticed something like 90% use Pidgeon and 10% use anything else (mostly Hangouts). It's all a janky setup, no central management, and everyone using their personal accounts. I

Pidgin is just a client. It can easily be used in a well managed, centralized corporate environment. I've never seen it any other way.

How does the account management work? Just curious cause I haven't saw anyone deploy Pigeon with a centralized, well managed system.

However you want depending on the back end. OpenFire will just tie in to Active Directory, if you want, or LDAP. Or it will run its own database.

I know Spark as a client for OpenFire is popular, but that only works with Windows/Mac/Linux... Everywhere I've setup OpenFire I've only ever had it done internal since Spark isn't available for mobile. Since Pidgin is available on Android and iOS... Could you point it external?

OpenFire is just an XMPP server. Spark, Pidgin and others are just XMPP clients. They are all generic. it's all just XMPP.

Can OF be configured to point externally then? I haven't tried it on mobile but I figure with some DNS entries and a firewall rule, I don't see why not...

Of course, XMPP is just a web protocol, just like HTTP. You just expose it and done. XMPP is XML, just like HTML. That's how 99% of deployments work. Think about Google Chat, that's XMPP.

For those who were still having problems getting Mattermost running on CentOS 7, I was also having the same problems and couldn't get beyond the postgres install. I found another guide and with a few tweaks, I was able to get this running.

      https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/install-mattermost-with-postgresql-and-nginx-on-centos7/

The change that was required from this guide was in the "Download and Extract Mattermost"

      Instead of...
      [root@mattermost ~]# wget -q "https://github.com/mattermost/platform/releases/download/v2.0.0/mattermost.tar.gz" -O mattermost.tar.gz

      Use this...
      wget https://releases.mattermost.com/3.3.0/mattermost-team-3.3.0-linux-amd64.tar.gz

Then in the next block, instead of...
      tar -xvzf mattermost.tar.gz

      Use this...
      tar -xvzf mattermost-team-3.3.0-linux-amd64.tar.gz

After that, follow the guide to the letter and it will get you to this...

Roll20.net used WebRTC also. It was really gitchy when i first started my campaign back up in it. though, so we used hangouts for the voice/video.

there's a lot of just chatter that is better served on the chat channel, written one and forgotten..

Such as the what are you doing right now topic...

Why is that better in the chat than on the thread?

It's so long it's hard to load. It's not technical in nature for the most part. And no one cares that you ate a slice of pizza three years ago.

Loads instantly here, are you not paginating?

I use infinite scroll and I have no real problems with those threads.

super tall pictures occasionally give issue on iOS,

@GregoryHall's method is what I used to do this exact thing a while back.

Only thing I wasn't able to figure out was how to automatically add the group to people's lists - I ended up writing up some tutorials on how to add groups and which one to add for one of our departments that needed to use S4B.

Does not really sound all that interesting. Maybe once it is released it will do something that we haven't foreseen.
