I like the three planning points idea. Write out your plan now. Start thinking about how to get to point A. Does that require a new cert? Get working on that cert. Does it require learning a new skill, get working on that skill. It will help to keep you from flapping between ideas that might prevent you from achieving a short term goal.

In my experience, fewer longer days are better than more, shorter days. You get way more free time in a clump to do things, even if that just means relaxing.
Is ServerMonkey going to send someone in to replace you here? It will be hard for them to maintain a presence on par with what you have been providing.

Hopefully they get someone to come in and be active. Since they are not active "over there" any longer, it is that much better of an opportunity to be busy here!

Hard to go wrong with DBAN. For testing them, just getting them onto a machine with SMART tools and doing something basic like building a filesystem on it should be enough.
