So then how do I create a cluster ? With high availability with no shared storage

@scottalanmiller said in Hp storage D2d4324 nfs slow xenserver:

For XenServer, which has high availability shared storage built in out of the box, you literally need nothing. HA-Lizard is a script that sets things up for you. You can use Starwind for larger scale. HP VSA will work as well. You can use Gluster or CEPH, too.

XenServer and HALizard is only for 2-node setups IIRC. XenServer by default is capable of setting up a 3-node (or more) HA pool that doesn't require anything else.

XenServer (and team) specifically design XenServer to be configured standalone for 3-host or more for true HA.

If you're going to use HALizard you'd only run 2 host, and configure them in a pool. Run the script on each server, create the virtual iSCSI between the hosts and let it sync.

Are the host of similar hardware?

If not I would recommend you shutdown and export it. This way if it's broken, you can just turn the old VM on and be functional.

@RojoLoco I wouldn't mind it, if it didn't require batteries / cleaning with a pressure washer.

Imagine trying to clean the bowl with that thing in there, you'd have to remove it every time, and then clean it on top of it.

I'm sorry learn to use the limited night time light that there is to find your way to the toilet.

    • RAID 6 vs RAID 10 - LFF - Winchester - Synology Backup Device

So this conversation is back again 😖

For a backup device, that has yet to be ordered, the boss and vendor really would prefer to use RAID 6. I'm not against this, but this is the sole backup target for use "today". Some point in the future we would be pushing a copy of this offsite so we're in the 3-2-1 rule.

I was balked at when saying we want a minimum of 40TB of backup space (5 fulls worth of storage allocated today) with "you're adding cost that I wasn't aware of"

Which whatever, no I'm not. Had that conversation already.

Being the primary device, onsite, we're looking at the Seagate 4TB NAS drives and the Synology RS2416+.

Is it unreasonable to really push for the RAID10 configuration for the on-site device? Should I just let this horse go?

Wouldn't choose a consumer grade device

Used to be a ThinkPad fan. Still good devices, but not what they used to be. Airbus for example is using Dell's business line, other companies I know are mostly using Fujitsu.

Name a business grade device that has a dedicated GPU for a not insane amount of money..

      Please..

Also what laptops would you honestly choose? I consider everything from any of the large suppliers to be "consumer grade". they aren't getting shipped to the Space Station.

Oddly the space station runs linux for life support / windows for Skype... True fact.

Will you still be giving out 1 year trials?

While I still have them 🙂

There was subtle Internet humor in my joke.

      I wasn't talking about Webroot codes. 🙂

Ah, I missed that. I'll have gifts for visitors, but I won't be able to send them outside of Colorado 🙂

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

      MangoCon 201X ... Colorado!

      🙂

I'd be more likely to attend, since it's just a jump over from Boise. I was just in Denver last month hanging out with @zuphzuph.

That [moderated]er @zuphzuph skipped MangoCon cause he had to move.

      Boo! Boo!

Slow down, mate. Don't get too far ahead of yourself.
Have a go at the VirtualBox setup and try out some stuff on Linux BEFORE you make a massive financial commitment.

This is what I was trying to get at. Investing in training is a good thing, if you are certain that is what you want to do.

But start by getting a basic understanding of what it is you might be doing, before you go and invest in training.

I'm so sick and tired of Apple's business model (and I don't even use their products).

They just constantly change their plugs, ports, and general idea, forcing consumers to purchase more accessories, with every new model.

Hey Apple, I want a solution that works, and doesn't require 15 different adapters to play on my ___________. Water proof is great, but damn it no headphone jack, OK, fine, makes some sense, but AirBuds without a cord, and the cord is extra!

      Get real.
