@tiagom said in Proper way to handle a remote user for Quickbooks login:

Quickbooks install on his computer and vpn into the network that has the quickbooks data.

If he's the CFO, get him a company computer (or laptop) and have it setup to connect to the VPN. Host the database on the network, and configure the laptop to have QuickBooks open this file.

      Save nothing locally.

Or, get the online version of quickbooks, and have the local installation on his laptop connect to that with user credentials.

Oh I also don't work in shipping, I'll help out if I know about it, but I was swamped yesterday with my actual job. Shipping clerk is in no way related to my position

Yes I did see an email, saying that someone from a specific department would come back and talk to us about something needing to ship, I saw this same person several times yesterday and spoke with them throughout the day.

Not once was it mentioned what needed to ship, where it had to go, or the location of where.

Might I recommend you using this website, if you aren't certain.

      https://pcpartpicker.com/user/pcbuilder/

Also that site will list the best prices for the parts and where to purchase them from.

OP was working in a Hyper-V cluster and needed to migrate his VM's over to the other node. The transfer failed for one VM, and the VM is lost.

Didn't take a backup prior to beginning work.

    • RE: Gaming - What's everyone playing / hosting / looking to play

So I played a bit of Rust last night on a PvE server, and the operators configured the settings so there is no challenge at all to the game...

I suppose fighting a bear or wolf would be a challenge still, but my I picked up a pumpkin and had 8 pumpkins, I chopped down a tree and got something like 4000 wood.

I'll probably find a low-pop server and play there, the challenge is in surviving. Not being spooned everything to build...

did you call and ask if they really sent this request?

Nope, I didn't even respond, the person who sent in the ticket, has a team of 10 people, if he doesn't know who is on his team, and they're emails then we have bigger issues.

Here is an article on the pic that @thanksajdotcom should've posted. And a second more in-depth article.

Way more interesting to read the article than the brief provided by sixpenceee.

    • Not to knock the vendor but seriously

Email used as an FTP Substitution

Specifically "Who Else Thinks Email Should Not be a FTP Substitute?" so there is some solution the person is selling, but is anyone really using email as a substitution to an FTP server?

I know we aren't we send very small files at most, and many of our clients won't accept an email attachment larger than 10 Mb.

So how common is this supposed practice...

I just found out our project mgr is leaving (moving away for family stuff), and we have to have a "farewell lunch" today at 1.... I take lunch at 2, so this screws up my schedule (I stay until 7, so late lunch splits the day up better for me).

Guess you get to have a 2 hour lunch today! The first half is all business meeting, the second half is actually lunch.

Is the coffee so intense their that you have to get ready for it?

Didn't you know you have to be pumped up to drink coffee. Can't be all like "ehhhhh I want coffee but meeeehhhh" You need to be "I need coffee now before I murder the first person who says even 1 word to me"

I think that may be a sign of addiction...

You should try it, it's really great. People stay away and a really quiet in the morning... It's bliss (except for having to be out of bed to get said coffee)

I've used HannsG monitors in the past, and they are a great value item.

Large screens, for cheap. Not as if you'd buy them for the CEO or anything.

Sucks that the warranty company has closed down for em though...

    • Why HALizard and XenServer Failed so heavily

So to explain as simply as possible as to what happened.

The boot drive on host1 died, this host continued to run, and XAPI eventually failed on the host, causing Host2 to not be able to seize the primary role from host1.

This failure of the boot device (usb), but continued operation of XS on host1, was compounded by the fact that XAPI was hung on both servers.

Checking with the HALizard guys, we had to try and move the primary role over to host2, but couldn't. When we rebooted host1 and it failed to start up, that host became an ISCSI target for the pool, only hosting the VM's.

Why host2 didn't see this and use it without HALizard support (Sal was a great help) to get to the VM's. Unfortunately the VM's became corrupted during the failure and failed to boot (BSOD or fix me screens).

So it was full on recovery from that point.
