      The people working there have little incentive. It's a government, grinding job. No incentive to do good work except for outright hatred of other Americans and a desire to screw them.

      But Soviet Russia will invade, We need to beat Al-Qaeda, ect.

      Why have their been so many large scale spying programs? Plus the CIA is surely not cleared to operate on American soil, is that the job of the FBI to spy and harness? CIA is there to spy on outsiders?

      In principle it works after reading the article.

      In practice? Let's find out. (of course we never will because national security)

      My gut reaction...

      BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH

      And that will be the CIAs reaction. They are trying to compete with an agency with 10x the funding and 10x the incentive to break into your system, I wish them luck!

      @Dashrender

      Going by the article:

      Munich is using the fifth version of Limux, which is based on Kubuntu, and comes with web browser Firefox, email client Thunderbird and Libreoffice version 4.1. Also available on all workstations is Wollmux, the city’s document template and form management solution.

      So although they are funnelling funds into Wollmux and some external development, by and large they are using what is out there.

      You think Dell will raise prices? I'm guessing they would lower them, if anything.

      They'll do something, I just don't know what it is. Might be to discontinue the venue range and go all Microsoft Surface.

      It's really true. The site has been a complete disaster. I've even spoken to people at HP about it and they act like nothing is wrong.

      And then they act surprised when the cut backs happen..."What did we do wrong?!?"

      So your reseller is years out of date with best practice? πŸ™‚ Why are you using them again?

    • So there is no shortage of security experts after all!

      http://www.computerworld.com/article/2979858/it-skills-training/the-myth-of-the-cybersecurity-skills-shortage.html#tk.rss_all

      Saw something a green guy posted in August which did my nut about "lack of security" experts.
      http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1131752-irs-says-criminals-actually-stole-data-on-330-000-3x-more-than-reported?stm_campaign=wall&stm_content=spice_event%2Bpost_response&stm_source=vendor_pages%2Bkeepersecurity

      The computer-world article is the first published document I've found which confirms what I've suspected all along, mid way through the article:

      Security professionals are developed over time, just as happens with experts in every profession, including all of the other disciplines within the computer profession: You are assigned a position that is consistent with your skill level, learn on the job and receive appropriate training. It is that simple. You can β€œcreate” a security professional by finding someone with the required minimum skills β€” usually a computer professional with several years of experience β€” and then having them learn the security-specific skills required through on-the-job training, mentorship and formal training. I mean, think about it: In many cases, firewalls have been installed and well maintained for years without the benefit of newly minted graduates from cybersecurity programs.

      The approach that seems to prevail these days β€” seeking a new hire who already has the right skills and experience or hiring them away from another organization β€” just doesn’t work. But it is why so many people believe there is a shortage of security professionals.

      How's that going to work with the client device is pretty much always going to have a weaker signal than the AP. Wifi is bi-directional ya know? haha.

      Sounds like you need to develop a valid argument in which they are misinformed. If they want to waste money on a process and hardware that will not give the performance or redundancy - keep moving forward.

      My valid argument to their argument boils down to 2 words, No Sale!

      @JasonNM - If you don't go with NTG, if you engage another consultant, have them sign an agreement which prohibits them from reseller agreements or sales on your behalf, you'll need the right legal phrasing but for any prospective consultant, lay that out up front.

      I wonder if the range is still the same as the others? 600 for LR, and 400 for the others.

      Why would you buy the LR. Client Devices aren't Long Range.. It's only good for mesh, and even then lets run a cable if we can.

      And if you can't run a cable? It's not a case of distance, sometimes it is a case of signal strength. In a very difficult to AP building they have worked wonders.

      When looking at the UAP and the UAP-LR the LR is the same with a stronger antenna, few users reported that the LR runs hotter than the UAP but that was the only negative I could find.

      @JaredBusch said:

      This. Not only are client devices not long range, but the power near the AP itself will be so strong that it will overwhelm the client device and cause it to not work well anyway.

      Stood next to the AP-LR, with a mobile and laptop, no problems at all. The units were purchased November 14 and have been performing flawlessly ever since.

      Well, wait and see. Until we actually have the product in our hands to play with, it might be a downgrade or it might be an upgrade.
      Not had an issue with the LR units we bought last year though, heard nothing but good about them, what's wrong with the units?

      @JaredBusch said:

      This takes the new units into the consumer once and done realm.

      For simple setups, why would you want/need a controller? Think 3-5 person office, IT guy walks in, takes the AP out the box, takes out his IPhone, sets it up, walks away.

      The controller will still be there (most likely, why would they aggravate their current market share by cutting out a feature) for most deployments but for the simple side, surely.
