Amazon might be successful, but when they cut corners. Eww.
You must never reboot the servers. Constant up time is vital.
Don't install updates, Microsoft will only break the server to force you to upgrade to the latest version.
Linux is not safe for production. Too complicated and too buggy.
Why are these facts true?
Because my experience, training and mentors have fostered a closed minded set of views in my mind and because of this I need to ignore all propaganda. I am not here to listen and learn, I am only here to teach others of the correct way of doing things.
Yes my job security might be at risk because I am not open to new ideas or learning new concepts but I'm irreplaceable here.
Started off in the thread about RAID arrays, thought it might make a good topic, bit of fun and a chance to win a prize.
You need to come up with concrete facts in IT, the basis of these facts must simply be
I AM RIGHT.
You don't need proof, evidence or peer review for the fact to be accepted, just simply post it.
Each fact will then be entered into a poll where spice works members and other people will vote on them for the best fact.
The author of the best fact, will receive a gift from www.DaraIT.co.uk - Example of one will be posted below.
EDIT: Forgot to mention.
This is limited to the world of IT/Technology. - Sorry @MattSpeller , your post is invalid Try again.
EDIT 2:
Submissions end Monday 7th September.
Oh by the way.
If you use mixed operating systems, (ala 7/Vista/8.1/10) when you get Cryptolocker or other Malware, the damage is limited to one group of operating systems.

@Drew - Ahh, internet mob mentality.
So much this.
Actually wait, that applies to anything, just look at most users. Not just internet mobs.
@Drew - Ahh, internet mob mentality.
People want to be liked, so they will parrot whatever the current gospel wisdom is regardless of understanding.
I will tell you 3 concrete facts.

@Breffni-Potter spares are a luxury unless you use them on a regular basis
ala weather station in greenland.
Shipping cannot be easy, so what are they to do?
For the hard to access station, they should have spares on a shelf, but in theory, when you buy a drive and store it for 3 years, what happens with the warranty if you put it in and it dies after a month?

Oh right, they did not even rename the installers? Sorry.
The OneDrive for Business executable is still Groove.exe, so is this really a surprise? That though has been changed long enough that the installer is different at least.
The backend says Groove as I said earlier, but how hard can it be to rename the installer?
Classic case of Marketing running down the road screaming about the new names when the tech guys are left behind wondering what to do.
Oh right, they did not even rename the installers? Sorry.

Skype for Business (with the click 2 run installer) is still called Lync in all of their coding ..
Its weird.
One Drive is still called Groove in the back end too.
Why would Microsoft pay someone to change there name of the code they are reusing? The bulk of people don't look at the back end.
Can we do a wider poll? Right now this is just limited to the MangoLassi membership.
But a single poll website, advertised on different communities might give a different insight in terms of metrics.
Only time I have replaced drives is when I start hearing less than healthy noises from them on client machines, never on a live raid array.

I assume by "see" that you can ping and interact with them?
IP scanner shows all the devices on the network when on guest SSID.
At home but when I'm next in I might be able to do a screenshot.

Guest Access on the Ubiquiti AP should stop them from messing with anything on the network, no VLAN needed.
"Should" but doesn't, I can still see other devices on the network when it's enabled.
Guest Access does not block you from seeing those devices, it just stops you communicating.
The only benefit for Guest Access to us, is that it stops other "guest" clients disturbing each other, the VLAN is the main way that we stop people interfering with the work network.
In the 2 hours since, It is now working fine.
It was throwing up malicious content warnings and forcing the page to close down.

Then the goal would be.
We have a lot of data that needs to be available for reference in the future, just in case a client ever needs or wants to use it again, how can we save this data?
Why couldn't you use something like onedrive? 1TB for $7 a month and you get Office 365 (if you're using Windows).
One Drive is the worst product in the 365 range.
Until they fix the arbitary SharePoint limitations and the broken sync client It's not something easily used.
