@travisdh1 Right. Seeing as how the world is built on storage systems, I need to dig in a little.

@travisdh1 So on second thought, I'm thinking it might be a better approach to redirect the call recordings to the block device directly, without extending the LVM volume to the block device. So it would be like this:
Attach block device and create partition and file system.
Mount the new device to a new directory (/callrecordings)
In FreePBX, point the call recordings to this new directory.
This way, the VPS disk, is still completely separate from the block device disk. In my head, this just seems cleaner, and has less potential for errors if the block device is ever unavailable.
Thoughts?

Yes, that makes way more sense.
The only thing that made me think of that was because about 2 weeks ago Vultr NJ had some issues with block storage. If they have an issue again, at least I could still boot the VM. (although I would have to remove the block device from the fstab. But then, It should boot fine I suppose. (crosses fingers)
Has anyone added a custom firewall rule to the FreePBX responsive firewall?
The new Responsive firewall has an option to add custom rules. From the documentation, it looks like you just have to enable the option for custom rules in the GUI, then create the file /etc/firewall-4.rules, and apply proper root permissions. Then write your iptables rule.
I want to access the FreePBX CDR DB remotely, from a single IP. However, I've attempted a couple of times to write the rule, but the firewall rejects them, and says the rules are corrupted, and then restarts the firewall.
Can anyone explain the proper rule to allow mySQL remote access from a single, external IP? Using the default 3306 port.
@quixoticjeremy Yeah, the touch thing has been getting worse, to the point of actually doing things by itself. Like if I have the screen turned on, then it randomly pressing things on the screen. It's become a real POS.
I've used the built in backup. It works great, preserving everything properly, as far as I can tell.

The iPhone X seems decent. I think this is the very first iPhone I wouldn't mind having. It took them what, like 17 or 18 tries to finally make something decent.
But the cost of it... paying over $1300 for a phone is just plain stupid. Maybe for rich CEOs and Execs that like to flaunt their worth, and poor people who like to spend all their money on crap like that... but you get my point.
I'm still drawn to the Asus Zenfone 4 Pro. It's better than half the price, and better hardware imho. Not as many little features, but IT'S $600 or less vs $1300+!!
True story! No way am I paying that for a cell phone. You can get a great laptop for that price.
I’m loving the new phone though. When I’m used to having a broken phone for the past couple months, having a phone that actually works is nice.

GS has come a long way since even a year ago.
New models this year?
They are always upgrading their models it seems. But I was referring to their firmware. The firmware improves with each release, and adds stuff that should have been there in the first place, as well as bug fixes as usual.
If I didn’t have a server at home with a VM for a nas, then I would go with Synology. Great devices.
I have a 2 u Dell r710 that I set up about a year ago. Runs 24x7 with Plex , various other VMs, and general storage. I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference on my electric bill at all. How expensive is electricity in CA?!

What hardware are you running?
Dell R710

I’m sure it depends on where you live. I have a DL380 and an R710 at home. They each are about $10 a month in electricity.
Yeah, I wouldn’t notice 10 bucks, so that makes sense.

For Tier 1, which is a very small tier, it is a little over 8 cents per kWh for delivery and 7.5 cents for generation. The next tier is 16.8 cents per kWh for delivery and 7.5 cents per kWh for generation.
Yikes!

Apologies, but it kinda had to be done.
As I was typing the OP, I thought to myself.. "This could go 1 of 2 ways judging by how I am wording this...." The answers were as expected.

I think my ERX is bricked. Attempted a firmware update via the GUI as per usual. It failed. Rebooted... now it doesn’t respond at all. Factory reset doesn’t help either. I’m pretty sure it is bricked unless I can figure out a way to console to it ( involves soldering a console cable to pins on the board.) Did this ever happen to anyone else with the ERX?
My first go at an ERX was weird. I thought I had last it, and I'm trying to remember why. For home I've grown to like the USG. Easy to use the mobile app to block my kids internet at night when they won't get offline. I've used the ERL because ERX wasn't out but I also had fiber and it can handle a higher througput and PPS than ERX and also USG if I'm not mistaken. In Ohio though 100mb is as good as it gets.
Can't imagine there isn't a way to reimagine it. Have you opened it up?
Haven’t used the USG yet.
I did open it up and there is nothing other than the 4 pins I mentioned. There is a way to solder a serial cable to it for console access. But I don’t feel like spending time on that. It looks like others have done it before though.
It maybe something wrong with me but I would do just that, and that is what I was leading up to.
It's
not about the $$$ it's justabout the money and the waste.Yeah, I’d have to get a special cable. If anything, I’d keep it around as a spare if I’d get it fixed.
Nothing wrong with that is you want to. Just more trouble than I want to deal with.
Right, that’s what I mean. I want to just get a new one and move on for the moment. But I’ll keep it around in case I have free time to fix it. ( laughs to himself as he tries to remember what free time feels like)

Good point, is there a reason that you don't just grow the storage?
Not possible with Vultr instance, right? Have to expand while virtual machine?
With Vultr, you can add block storage on a per GB bases as needed. So yes, you can do it with Vultr without expanding the VM itself.
Yeah I guess he is probably in NJ data center. I've only used block storage in winblows server. Not sure how you'd move that location in FreePBX.
LVM
Yep, I did this exact thing on a server with Vultr block storage. It is super easy. Purchase it, attach it to the server, create a mount point and mount the new storage device (shows up as another drive), then done.
In FreePBX Advanced settings, you can even specify an alternative destination for voicemails.
