      @QuixoticJeremy @QuixoticJustin

Have you added contacts and organizations to the system? I was looking at that yesterday and noticed that you have to add them to select an org and contact.

Each ticket can have different information.

NTG is a contact / Org so yes.

I would check, but seemingly can't log in today.

I'm waiting on my IT to wake up so that I can figure out what is going on.

I thought they were the only ones allowed to sleep, and you had to work 24/7. . . what's the issue?

lol the issue is that the logging system is turned off atm which is something I need to figure out what is going on... (also something that is not in my jurisdiction)

    • Spinning Up an ADDC VM "in the Cloud" - Best Practices, Tips, Tricks, Advice on Logistics, Providers, Etc?

I can't for the life of me find a thread that someone else started either here or on SpiceWorks that may or may not have gotten off topic where several reply posts mentioned having an additional ADDC off site for redundancy/availability.

Being that I can't seem to work my search magic today, I would like to know what the best practices and considerations would be in implementing an ADDC "in the cloud". Perhaps this is better suited as its own thread, anyway.

      Thanks for the help.

HGST. Owned by Western Digital, but still running their own production lines. They're a little more expensive, but also more reliable. You have to decide if the extra cost is worth the reliability difference.

Ever since those floods several years ago, HDDquality has gone down.

    • RE: What Are You Doing Right Now

Kicking myself for not realizing that I had left out an important firewall rule a few months ago when I setup my new Sophos SG 210. I setup NTP rules from various WiFi networks' VLANs to my DCs but forgot to allow the DCs out on UDP 123 to get to an external time server. I was wondering why everything was off by a full 2 minutes. Once I tried to /resync on the DC, it didn't work (no time data available), down the rabbit hole then I checked the firewall logs and noticed blocking of 123 from the DC. Added that rule and everything is good to go.

      Face palm.

Slack isn’t worried about Microsoft’s big Teams push

Slack’s CEO compares Microsoft’s Teams bundling to Google+
Microsoft revealed last week that it now has more than 13 million people using its Microsoft Teams chat software, a milestone that means the app has overtaken Slack.

It's hard not to agree. Actual engagement is the only thing that matters.

Actually, it's businesses being willing to pay for the service is all that matters.

It’s not something you pay extra for since it’s bundled with O365.

      You are.

If you want Slack, it's not because you also want Google Sheets or Zimbra email with XYZ. It's because you want Slack because of what business needs it covers.
Slack is $6-$12 per user per month.

      745bbcc0-e244-444c-8022-3194fa2bc875-image.png

If you just want MS Teams (which is a legit need by the way), too bad, you also have to pay for other stuff you may or may not need or use.
MS Teams will cost you $5, which is cheaper than Slack, which does NOT include Office or Office Suite, but does include Exchange... whether or not you need it. To get Office, it's a minimum of $12.50 for Business Premium (< 300 users). Otherwise, you're buying enterprise O365 licenses which just goes up.

We switched from SFB/Teams to slack plus. Waste of money IMO. I didn't like either of them because I don't like chat for work.

I like it because chatting via email is dumb. Email is really abused and extremely inefficient for most of what it's typically used for within most organisations.

True. However, if you are the only person doing all of IT for 100 users and don't have a ticketing system, chat is an interruption and the presumption is that it is an instant response. No way can I instantly respond based on my workload.

    • RE: What Are You Doing Right Now

@RojoLoco Yeah, I have PRTG to tell me when I need to do something. Usually, people don't bother me after hours. It is the equipment that beckons.
I used to get calls from remote users on the weekends for expiring passwords and that was annoying so I setup a password notification e-mail that starts 14 days prior to their expiration. And I have e-mail templates that I send out explaining how to create strong passwords that you can remember and how to change your password and update the cached credentials on the domain-joined laptop.

If someone calls me now, they will get a "You'll have to wait til Monday". Fortunately, it hasn't come to that but I still have to force some people to change them on the day of or on the Friday prior to it expiring. They might as well be my kids.

    • Ubuntu: SMB Client Get Command

I am trying to manually install the Pertino client on a fresh Ubuntu 15.10 VM. I am trying to copy over the installer for the pertino client from a Windows Server share and since I am pretty green when it comes to Linux, I am not sure of some very basic commands in how to do it.

I am using the smb client to connect to the share, then using get to download the file to the Ubuntu server. However, I do not know where the file ends up. I checked the /tmp directory but it is not there. After connecting to the share I am running:

      get pertino_520.4587-1_amd64.deb

I see the progress and speed of transfer. Is there an option to add the destination to the get command? Is there a better way to do this?
