RE: Can Anyone Load ThanksAJ.com?
Yeah I fixed it. Issue was that www.thanksaj.com AND thanksaj.com had to both be changed, and I forgot the www one.

RE: Random Compliments/Gratitude Thread
Today I was talking to a guy at Staples who came in to return a router that his son bought due to intermittent wireless connectivity issues. It was a Netgear N750, so I helped him pick out a Netgear N600 Gigabit to replace it. Anyways, it was early-ish in the morning and he and I started talking. I mentioned how I had also had some issues with the Netgears and wireless but that dd-wrt was how I'd solved it. I had picked up he was a little more technical, and was also sure to inform him it may void the manufacturer's warranty doing that, but it was an awesome workaround for a lot of issues.
I don't remember how, but I started talking about how I'd worked at Staples a little over a year and a half ago and told him about some of my other jobs and experience in IT. After a couple minutes, he looked at me and goes "So why are you here?!" with a look of disbelief. I laughed and told him I genuinely enjoyed the job and liked bringing a level of experience that you almost never find in retail to the table, which I enjoy using to help the average person get good solutions to their IT problems.
After I say that, he tells me how he runs a computer repair shop, which he also owns, and has for the past 15 years just north of where the store is. He said he's been coming to this Staples for a little bit now and how no one he ever talked to was, according to him, competent. However, at this point, he tells me that there are times that he is either too far geographically to assist some person or is just unable to for some other reason, and even though we're technically competition, he told me that if that comes up, he will be sending people to see ME. He pointed right at me as he said that.
The best part was that right after that he turned about 130 degrees to face my GM, who was about 10 feet away down the aisle. He shook his hand and told him, and I quote, "you finally have someone who knows what they're talking about". This was both awesome because it's only my second day back at Staples, and it was a very nice boost to my own self-esteem, which has taken some major hits lately.
I know it sounds like I'm bragging, but it was just such an awesome experience. Combined with the fact I had several customers tell me how much they enjoyed working with me and how they felt confident with their buying decisions based on my advice, and today was a very good day.

Random Compliments/Gratitude Thread
If you want to tell someone that you enjoyed a certain post they made, or something they said, or if you have something that someone said to you at work or home that you just want to share, here is the place to do it!
This is a feel-good thread, so no negativity! If it's positive and you want to share it, even if it's about you, share!
Thanks,

I love the look of the new site
Thanks. I had multiple people comment about how hard it was to read comments from Facebook due to the black background and transparent form. So I changed to a brighter look. I like it. It's even cleaner than the last one.

RE: Weird Website Issues
Just had a DOH moment...
I changed the IP of thanksaj.com but not www.thanksaj.com, which with the C@C server having issues, that would do it.

It Finally Happened
So apparently I've obtained a level of notoriety where people decide to spoof my websites, and not in the hacking kind of way.
http://nothanksaj.com/I understand if you hate me for clicking the link but it's clean, I promise. Totally SFW. But apparently someone decided to spend the money for the domain and even made the whois private, so the domain registration info was not publicly known. Honestly, I find it funny and somewhat flattering. I mean, @scottalanmiller, has anyone ever pulled a joke like this on you?

RE: Weird Website Issues
I should also note, I tried it from a different browser that I never use (Firefox in this case) and it didn't load there either.

Just got off the phone with Microsoft support... got a new/refurb Surface Pro on warranty from them... was shipped with a broken image and a banned key... now I can't activate it and the first tier person basically accused me of pirating Windows and told me some of the punishments that could come along with it... They were flabbergasted when I told them the device (and image) were directly from Microsoft.
Makes me wish we had a volume license agreement for Windows...
Wow...India support?
Not as far as I could tell... the accent sounded Latin American. Although not sure if they have a call center in that area. Last time I talked to MS Support I got the Miami call center which was great.
Hmmm, I've always had to deal with India. Then again, only time I ever call MS is when I have an activation issue. Most of the time I work it out via the automated system, but the guys I get when that doesn't work are always in India...

Weird Website Issues
So my site is ThanksAJ.com as everyone knows. I have several times changed the IP it's pointing to in my NoIP console. Everytime, after a couple minutes, I can ping it by the correct IP. I have tried flushing DNS, clearing cache on my browser, and no matter what I do, the site will not pull up by hostname. I can ping it to the right IP, but the browser will not load it. However, because the server it's currently hosted on only has one active virtual host, it loads fine by the IP of the site.
What I don't understand is why it will load by IP but not by hostname when the hostname pings correctly and successfully. Anyone got any ideas? Not even sure where to start on this...
Thanks!

It's supposed to reboot every two days automatically at 3AM. Is this the proper context for that in cron?
0 3 * * 0,2,4,6 reboot
should probably run that as /sbin/reboot. I don't think cron has a path to follow so you need to specify locations explicitly.
it's worked in the past with just one day. I was more curious about the 0,2,4,6 part, but I'll try that too.
