    • Dell R730 - Stuck at Initializing Firmware Interfaces

Has anyone else run into this issue? I have an external usb drive connected to an R730 and it takes about 45 minutes before it will advance from the Initializing firmware interfaces screen. From what I have seen from other posts online there appears to be a similar issue with some Dell models and having a usb drive connected. I have never run into this in the past with other R720 or R730 systems.

All Bios and firmware updates have been applied. Is it possible I just have a bad usb drive connected? Once the system does boot and I try to diskpart it is extremely slow. When I try to create a partition on the usb drive it ends up telling me the disk is not ready. I am not sure if this is because it is a bad usb drive or because of the initial issue at boot.

I am not going to be onsite for a couple days but was wondering if anyone else has seen this before.

      Thanks in advance.

Why in God's green earth would you deploy XP today? Or would you continue to operate Windows XP?

The system it runs has an $80,000 camera on it

Also this seems insane that the customer has an $80,000 camera, but can't or won't purchase an updated system to run it.

Medical equipment. That was the price of the current camera. The newer ones are even more ridiculous.

Okay, so how much is the added insurance of using an ancient OS to run this? What's the potential lawsuit when this system is compromised?

Again that's why I am asking the question. Does this process allow for a compromise? I mean if someone can get all the way to the camera system through the Windows 10 machine, isn't the Windows 10 machine already compromised?

But they have a printer attached to this system, I assume this is USB as well, right? Or is this system already networked?

No one said that. you are conflating everything worse than @Dashrender. Stop assuming shit, and spam replying with no useful info.

Current process is that they print all images and then scan them in. I was just looking to save some steps but not cause a security issue for them.

      Suck it.

Read more slowly. They print the images. They scan the printed images in.

Nothing in there states the images come from this system, that was bought for the camera, not for the printing.

How do you think they are printing the images? Using a USB drive to grab the files from this XP workstation first? We all know that USB drives are a massive HIPAA no-no.

So @syko24 how are they printing these images?

    • Any way to pass through pci fax modem in hyper-v

I setup a new server for a client two months ago. Hyper-V Server 2016 is installed and I have 2 Windows Server 2016 VMs.
(Their software is not compatible with 2019 for some reason, hence the 2016 install) The client has been running their software for 2 months now and just decided that they want to use some fax feature their software offers. The fax feature requires running Windows Fax Server and having a specific $600+ pci fax card installed. I am trying to figure out the least painful route to make this work for them.

The options I can think of are:

      1. Somehow passthrough the card to the VM from the host if possible.

      2. Or export the VMs, reinstall Windows Server 2016 on the host, add hyper-v role, add Windows Fax Server, import the VMs back. I feel like this is not allowed though because the host install can only have hyper-v role installed and nothing else.

      3. Or tell the client they need to purchase another Windows Server License and install on a basic desktop with the pci card added to it.

Let me know what you guys think or if you have any other suggestions.

      Thanks

    • Envelopes in Brother Printers

Is it common that you have to open the back cover on a Brother printer in order to send envelopes through? Is this common on most laser printers? The below video shows and example of what I am talking about. A client called asking me why the envelopes come out all crinkled when they print. I sent them this video. I kind of feel like that is a pain but if that is common in all or most laser printers what can you do right?

    • RE: Need help for argument with Comcast

Not siding with Comcast but don’t forget there is the Companion application for Windows. There are also mobile apps to connect to the users accounts so they can do calls from the cell as if they are in the office. I had a client that signed up for voice edge a long time ago and I think they were responsible for setting up the accounts for the users.

      they were responsible

They who? Because this sounds like they bought the self managed solution so far. Which means it is totally on the customer. Sure Comcast might have set it all up. But with that solution, they are supposed to train and walk away.

Just because the customer thinks something, does not make it a fact.

My bad, they being the customer had to create their own logins. The Comcast installer showed the office manager how to create the accounts and most likely suggested a basic password that would be reset when the user logged in for the first time.

I don’t have one of them.

But I have multiple phone systems to test with if you want.

We could set one up to my PBX and let me watch the logs and such.

Thanks @JaredBusch for the offer. So I know this should have been more obvious but there was a SonicWall router in place at this site. The reason I didn't think much of it was because about half the phones were working properly and the other half were not. I was thinking the issue was something with the local RTP being set at 5004 on the GrandStreams.

I swapped out the SonicWall with an EdgeRouter but that still did not fix the issue. I rebooted the isp's modem and rebooted the edgerouter. I factory reset all the phones and they all connected. I tested that all could access extension calls and make outbound calls. For now I am assuming the SonicWall was the culprit but tomorrow will tell.

If I run into this issue again I may take you up on your offer. Thanks again!!

    • RE: Monitor Trunk Failures in FreePBX

@JaredBusch - Just curious would it be possible to then put something like an fwconsole reload for just the trunk? A lot of the times I find that going into the trunks and selecting submit/apply settings fixes the down trunk. In the documentation I only see an option for enable and disable.

      So maybe:

fwconsole trunks --disable 1 (1 being trunk 1)
        fwconsole trunks --enable 1

    • Exchange 2013 - User deleted all emails - recovery options

We had a user delete all their emails and then purged everything from the recover deleted items option in Outlook. When a user purges, does that remove them permanently from the server or can I still recover them from Exchange Shell?

Or do I have to restore the database and recover from there?

      Thanks

Just another thought, I backup the server with Veeam Agent for Windows (free). If I installed Veeam Backup and Recovery, can I read the contents of my Agent backups? Then I could potentially use Veeam Explorer for Exchange to extract the contents?

      that should work.

Just a follow up, I was able to install Veeam Backup and Replication (Community) and imported my Veeam Agent for Windows (Free) in to it. I was then able to use Explorer for Exchange to mount the backup file and export the emails from the user to a PST.

@scottalanmiller said in Changing Installation Location for MicroSIP Installed via Chocolatey:

By default, installing MicroSIP using Chocolatey causes the install to go to an inappropriate data folder location and is only available for the admin installing user, rather than for the end users of the Windows system. Does anyone have any experience or ideas in changing the installation location so that system users can actually use MicroSIP when installed and maintained using choco?

Asking for @Dashrender and @romo as well.

      I think this might work:
      choco install microsip -ia "'/D=C:\SomeDirectory'"
