@MattSpeller a number of new switches were in order, but if I have to revert ALL phones to LAN, well this more or less doubles our ports requirements, therefore the required switches.

They do make phones with a built in switch, something to ponder perhaps. We have ancient Mitel phones that have a 100mb switch in them and they have been rock solid much to my surprise.

Most are GigE these days. But there are 100Mb/s ones lingering.

@MattSpeller yes, this is another option too but batch in order had not so many POE ports and nowdays most phones has POE. Anyway still waything for a compatibility list, maybe we can simply go the AC adapter way.

While it's still up in the air go check your network closet and make sure you have enough power to run enough PoE switches. This was the cause of an expensive visit from an electrician for us.

      Not a bad idea.

Good that someone is doing this. There are people who like Unity and will want to have it keep moving forward even if more slowly.

It wouldn't be bad if a few things were changed. It was just super slow to do a lot of tasks.

Not really meant for people doing a lot of tasks. It's kind of a "one task at a time" interface.

I just meant a lot of tasks are slow. Not a lot at once, just a lot of the normal things you would do were slow.

      Oh, got you man 🙂

Not a bad idea, I guess. There is some security concern there. I would wonder how often this is really an issue. Is this common? Or just proactive?

    • Azure AD Open Source Alternative

Samba 4 does what AD does, for free. But I'm not aware of anything that does what Azure AD does using open source software that you can host yourself. Does anyone know if something exists?

Obviously Ubuntu Enterprise would have support and licensing much like RedHat does today.

Ubuntu already has a model that is nearly identical to that. Ubuntu (paid) handles the supported version and Ubuntu (free) does not get support. Other than having only one name instead of two names for the same product, it's just like Red Hat's model in that way.

It would be rather awful for the industry if they were to suddenly collapse. They are too big to fail, in a way.

Really? I know of no one that is actually purchasing support through them.

As a platform they are massive, and are used globally, that I understand. The question I have is Canonical doing most of the software development or is the community?

Canonical does loads of the development and lots of places use their software because they can get support, not necessarily because they do get support. This will have a lot of ripples.

Maybe Red Hat or Suse would pick up support contracts to protect customers.

He's constantly on the road, I can't imagine he actually spends time at client sights, I think he just drives in circles on the highway to make it look like he's being productive. . . . .

I'm not a NASCAR driver I don't get paid to drive in circles.

Then why does your picture look like you're about to make another right turn? Ha ha.

Somebody take away your southerner card. NASCAR only turns left dumbass.

Yeah but @RojoLoco drinks inhumanly strong coffee. It's crazy.

Most coffee people consider strong is the dark stuff, which has less caffeine than a light roast, and considerably less than that cold brew @RojoLoco makes. Take it from me, you don't want to drink much more than an expresso cup worth of that stuff at once, I was awake most of a weekend when I made my first batch.

Hrm, might be just the thing for MangoCon!

      Espresso. This is an expresso....

Not surprising that someone is going to keep it going. People like their projects and Unity has had years and years of effort. So that people don't want to just drop it should not be surprising. How well it will do or if any major distro will keep making it available is anyone's guess.
