    • Foreign DNS Distributor Mapping

      Hey yo! What's up everybody!

Had a vendor use this phrase with us today and I have no idea what it might refer to. Never heard this term before and a quick Google of it turns up... zippo. Anyone know what they might be referring to? This is from a DNS host manager.

      Intresting:
Active Directory: Bridging the gap between system administrators and Linux developers

Ubuntu machines can join an Active Directory (AD) domain at installation for central configuration. AD administrators can now manage Ubuntu workstations, which simplifies compliance with company policies.

Ubuntu 21.04 adds the ability to configure system settings from an AD domain controller. Using a Group Policy Client, system administrators can specify security policies on all connected clients, such as password policies and user access control, and Desktop environment settings, such as login screen, background and favourite apps.

FInally Ubuntu joins the stone age, lol.

Just had a Covetrus "support tech" not be able to install their MSI and to try to blame us he actually made the claim that their MSI file that he had just downloaded and run himself was actually "our responsibility for being part of the operating system."

WTF dude. Obviously we aren't going to fall for that. How the hell would their application's MSI file be provided by Windows 10?

Talking to support at Weave, the supposed phone vendor today, and their "technical support" asked us the difference between switch ports, and wall ports, and tried to claim that they have customers that don't need switches! Um... who do you think you are fooling buddy?

In fact, I would rename anything in conf.d first, and restart.

You could do something like this...

      mv conf.d conf.d.orig
      mkdir conf.d

That way you have an empty folder, but can replace it with the old one in a snap all at once.

If you put cpanel on a server - not saying you should - but don't you get a complete mail setup with dovecot, postfix, spamassasin and the whole shebang? And then set it to relay smtp through mailgun.

Isn't that what all those website and email providers do? Or are they each running custom configs?

Typically they only offer IMAP and POP, even a web interface is rare. It's normally very basic email, not "groupware" like most business mean with calendars and stuff. So you have to bring your own IMAP client.

So used to Windows using / for switches on the command line.

The moronic decisions of Gary Kildall and everyone else that decided to copy the command syntax of OpenVMS and RDOS rather than something a bit more logical like Unix. Not to mention busted ass syntax made worse even today with PowerShell... great, commands with hyphens, that's not irritating at all. Maybe let's copy bash or something, oh no let's instead really mess things up even more and invent something worse.

Also with classic DOS, you want to run it in the background? Can't use &, instead && is used as a command separator. Essentially the bad syntax choices made early on made it to where every additional change was equally terrible or made even worse.

I think VMS copied Kildall. C/PM was 1974, VMS was 1977.

@SemperOSS said in Nextcloud Conflicts When Saving a File (Single User Scenario):

I am working on a very small software project and when I save a file (the only file in that directory), Nextcloud often seems to feel that the version stored on the server is newer than the version I just stored and makes the newest version a conflict file and reverts to the server version, which can be very damaging if I am not aware of it.

What task are you using NextCloud for with development? You aren't trying to store code in it, are you? NextCloud would not be a good replacement to a git repository, for example.
