In Missouri, we have what is called the A+ program. HS kids go through a program and have to meet certain requirements. Once they do, their first two years of college at a community college is free. My kids are doing this.

@fateknollogee okay. I was going to suggest if it was available that you do an export: virsh dumpxml vmname > vmname.xml then move the hard drives and the xml to the new host and do an import: virsh net-define vmname.xml

The only vendor that I would stay away from in Lenovo. I am not a big fan of HP because of past experiences but then I hear of people have similar experiences with Dell, which I have not had. So I always try to keep an open mind. As long as Dell makes laptops that work with our current docking stations we will not go away from them because of the cost of replacing docking stations. As soon as they don't we will be open to which ever vendor we feel can meet our needs the best, except Lenovo.

      interstate commerce clause?

I don't think so. If California told businesses based in California they couldn't do business with those states, then yes that would be. However, California itself can choose whom they do business with.

Dell Latitude line no longer has CD/DVD drives. We got the E6440s because we still needed CD/DVD drives, they were some of the last latitudes to have them. We get sent discs still from smaller law firms.

I had looked that up just recently so knew it had a million person lead on Houston. It was only 100K larger when we first moved here. DFW is growing so quickly that it's only like a decade short from being expected to overtake Chicagoland!

Especially not surprising since people are leaving the Chicago area at a rapid rate: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-chicago-census-population-loss-met-20170322-story.html

That piece was specifically crafted to make Chicago look bad. Illinois as a whole is losing people because it is the shittiest state in the Union.

I know. I live in Southern Illinois and as soon as we can (our youngest graduating high school in 5 years) we are moving. My plan is to stay in the job I have now. It is a good job. Have a few Linux certs by then, then moving to a different part of the country to be a Linux Systems Administrator.

All those weird ones, I think that they are basically useless. Fine for goofy sites, but avoid them for businesses. People can't even figure out that they are domain names.

Except for .co of course, right? 😉

That's not a weird one, that's a standard country TLD. The ones that have been around basically since day one, which includes all the country codes, com, net, org, gov, mil, etc. are fine. It's the weird, later, different meaning ones that are strange and no one understands. .biz, .technical, .hairsalon, .brothel, .carwash or whatever.

I think I will register my business and my church with new TLDs. Both will end in .brothel Might bring church attendance up....

Just found out that I qualify for partial student loan forgiveness with this new job. Becuase of my divorce and subsequent child support payments I haven't paid off any of my student loan debt. Now I might have up to $63,000 forgiven.

    • RE: Student Loan Forgiveness Rant

The idea behind it is to keep people in government/non-profit service that typically pays less. For example, the public defenders office, where I will be working, qualifies for this so they can get attorneys and other professionals to work there longer than just a year or two because they don't have the ability to compete with the private sector most of the time. So it is a benefit for you staying for 10 years. So if I stay for 10 years, and make 120 on time qualifying payments, so it is not all of my student loans, which is the plan. That with me is going to be between 5,000 and 6,000 for each year of service. That puts my salary about where it should be, my current work countered me with more money than what the federal government is offering but no student loan help. When I calculate that in it is a wash. I have 7 years of Legal IT experience with one of the largest firms in the region. So I have the skills that the public defenders office needs. This forgiveness is what is giving them the edge right now in obtaining me. It is "Forgiveness" but it is a benefit for staying and working in the government/non-profit for that period of time and not jumping to a better paying job somewhere else. A lot of companies will do this as well. Trust me, I was beginning to pay on my student loans because I have paid off my other debt, and I would have paid it all off with no complaints, however, this is open to me and I am not going to just not take advantage of something that is available.
