Bottom line is this. God only made a few perfect heads, like @scottalanmiller and mine, the rest God had to cover with hair.

Hair... hiding the shame of imperfect heads since time began.

EXACTLY, the truth comes out. It is a huge conspiracy perpetrated by the people with hair!

@nadnerb wow, can't complain about the service here, that's way more than I was expecting. Thanks comrade.

I recommend you try a real mango lassi, they are delicious! It's like a healthy version of a milkshake.

And you ruined it all. Who needs healthy?

Well, it's healthier, not REALLY healthy. Still a lot of fat and sugar.

fats are okay, your body needs fats. Sugar and carbohydrates, on the other hand, you don't need at all. You could live your whole life without them and not be deficient nutritionally.

When they get back they will be tired. I remember taking my kids to places like that to burn off some of their energy. Usually though I did it with them which made me even more tired. Found memories though.

@penguinwrangler As far as weight-loss goes you will typically get better results with weight-loss with strength training than cardio. When you do cardio, you burn more calories than sitting. When you lift weights you burn more calories, then your body will spend more calories rebuilding muscle the next day, then that new muscle now takes more calories to move, so you burn more in your day to day life. I am not saying you don't need cardio, but if your goal is weight loss at least consider doing a mix. I lift 3 days a week and ride my bike 6 miles round trip to and from work for my cardio. I started about where you were and I have slowly worked from 300lbs about 8 years ago down to 185, then back up to 200, and on a cut now to get to the 170's. Weight training is what took me from 220 to 185 and made a huge difference for me.

Also, you can not exercise off a bad diet. an 30min on the treadmill barely breaks even for a single bottle of soda.

This is great advice. I think if more people knew how little running/treadmills/ellipticals did to help you lose weight a lot more people would stick to their program.

Cardio is great for your heart and other things, but getting the fat off is far more important to good health.

If you’ve hit a plateau with weight loss and food I think it’s best to start with modified pushups and squats to get your core muscles built up. Mixing in short cardio (a set of anything as close to a burpee you can pull off at your given weight) with core workouts will help burn fat as well.

I’m a firm believer in a juicy steak once a week as well as monitoring your sugar levels after intro of new foods to your diet when you stall on weight loss. You can lose ALL your weight with diet, if it’s stalled somethings wrong. The core workouts and weight training are going to significantly increase your bodies need to burn fat to sustain muscle.

Yes I've always been saying this, most recently here and here.

It always comes down to proper diet, sleep, and exercise.

For losing weight specifically, it's all about a calorie deficit (technically)... but how you do this is extremely important, because there's so many factors that can make you gain weight or prevent you from losing it directly and indirectly.

      • Diet
        • Avoid processed foods and drinks
        • Avoid added sugars
        • Avoid bad carbs (breads, potato, white rice, pastries, cereals, etc)
        • Go for unprocessed, more natural foods: (natually a more healthy choice by default)
          • walnuts, pecans, peanuts, etc.
          • peas, broccoli, spinach, etc.
          • avocado, sweet potato / yam, whole oats, etc.
          • tuna, salmon, turkey, black beans, etc.
          • banana, dates, berries, etc.
      • Sleep
        • 8.5 hours "in bed"
        • 7-8 hours of actual sleeping
          • if this is difficult, try "sleep compression"
      • Exercise
        • Strength Training (muscle, bone, heart, lung health)
        • Cardio (heart and lung health)

It's true that you burn more calories just to maintain muscle than it does fat. Ideally your exercise will cause you to burn calories, and gain muscle... therefore losing fat... this is optimal. It will be a combination of strength training and cardio. How you do cardio matters, too. Straight up treadmill or running can be bad for your knees, so perhaps training yourself to "run on yoru toes" with Vibram Five Fingers shoes gradually, will help... or using an Elliptical Trainer. There a many ways to get in some medium to high intensity cardio without killing your knees.

What people often don't realize is that you need to stay away from sugar. Also you need 0 amount of carbs and sugars to survive. Carbs turn into sugar in your body so carbs = sugar, there are things with good carbs, talking in general here. I love peanut butter but I make my own from just peanuts and salt because of how much sugar they add to peanut butter. You do need fats and fats are good. Fats will buffer your blood sugar from spiking. Fiber will too. That is why the sugar in fruit is okay but not in juice. You eat the fruit and get the fiber and that helps keep your blood sugar from spiking too much but if you just do juice there is no fiber in it. I don't count calories or carbs. I eat a reasonably portion meal with healthy foods. No processed crap, no sugar etc. Sugar is addictive. That is why it is in so many processed foods. Keeps you wanting more of it. I am still loosing weight just at a lower rate than I want to. I also want to get some muscle tone back.

@penguinwrangler Id disagree and say who cares about what food kids like? They havent earned it. Let them eat that garbage, esp if parents are too stupid/lazy to give them worthwhile food. Also, who in the world likes elementary school food? It is the worst food of all time. Horse meat and sawdust sandwiches...

Nah... We got good food in elementary school. Middle School was so-so... Highschool is where they broke out the horse meat & sawdust... Oh, and don't forget the Concussion biscuits.

The issue is, what would you define as good food? Healthy food can taste really bad, be super good for you but taste bad (okay unhealthy food can taste bad too). I am not saying all healthy food taste bad or vice versa but a lot of people both kids and adults won't eat "healthy" food. My oldest stepson (he is 17) is having medical problems because he won't eat right. We bought him a nutribullet told him to mix up his veggies with some fruit and just gulp it down fast. He won't do it. The answer to his problem is better nutrition but he won't do it.

In the school setting kids come back and say they didn't eat lunch and the parents are mad because they don't serve food the kids want to eat. Then parents are complaining to the principal about this and they are trying to deal with it. However the principal is worried about the test results and honestly just wants to keep the parents quiet, so they can focus on what is important. Hence, even though they would like to tackle this issue it isn't that important to them. Honestly, it isn't that important to our society. Until we demand better nutrition all around, it won't come to our schools. We need to demand that they take out sugar from everything. However, they put sugar into everything because of the low-fat idea. Take out fat and add sugar. Also sugar is addictive so people will crave the food, a win for the food companies.

I bet a rub like that would be excellent with a little finely ground espresso added to the mix.

Hmmm...... I will find out. I mainly use the rub when I smoke meat in my smoker. However, when I don't want to fuss with the smoker I will do my meat in the crockpot as it is much easier. Last night was at the grocery store and saw a package of three pork steaks on sale. Snatched them up and cooked them overnight. Now I have lunch for today and the rest of the work week.

    • RE: IT female empowerment

Women will become the dominant gender in all fields that lead itself to get schooling after high school. Women are outpacing men in college degrees(Study here). Not saying you have to have a college degree for IT. Trust me I think it is a waste of time for IT. However, as hiring managers and HR usually have college degrees that is what they will lean towards for a position, how many of us have degrees and Certificates just to get the interview? I know I do. However, I think we need to ask why are boys less and less likely to enter college. Is it because in schools in America, the acceptable behavior is female behavior and normal boy behavior (rowdy, disorganized, inattentive especially at younger ages) is discouraged and punished. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2000/05/the-war-against-boys/304659/

I don't mind encouraging people to think about going into fields that they wouldn't normally go into. I would never want to think that someone would say "well I shouldn't go into that field because I am male/female". There has been a gender gap in STEM. I think it is starting to shrinking now. What is perplexing is that there isn't a push for men to go into what has been primarily female-dominated fields, for instance, nursing, teaching, social work, etc. If there is something "wrong" with STEM being dominated by men, why is it okay for fields to be dominated by women?
