RDS - RemoteApp hangs
We have a server2012 r2 instance deployed as a RDS of which Excel is deployed as a remote app.
Occasionally and probably more often than not, some users (some more than others) keep having an issue when they try to launch the Excel. The app connects and just hangs...See image here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tp13xeztr0scrmf/remotestuck.JPG?dl=0
I have to then log onto the server as an admin, and manually log out/disconnect their session. They can then log back in as normal until the next time it happens.....Any ideas what this can be?

RE: Backing up Office 365 mailboxes
Thanks SAM.
These guys are too big for us. I believe they typically start with 50 mailboxes and it requires SQL on prem.
We work with smaller businesses 5-50 users so dont think they are the best fit..... Any other ideas?I was going to look at GFI Mail Essentials and see if that does the trick.

Backing up Office 365 mailboxes
What does everyone use to backup client O365 mailboxes and content?
This is something I dont yet do for our clients and feel a bit unnervey about not doing so. Therefore wanted to implement a backup/business continuity for Office 365 mailboxes.Any recommendations?

Microsoft CSP + The transition and newsletter/email to customers
Need to make the transition over to CSP and will need to let clients know that we'd like to manage their subscription and handle billing for them moving forwards.
I wondered if anyone had this transition before - is it a simple process and does anyone have a template/newsletter I could possibly use to word it well?
Thanks in advance.

@Dashrender said in Licensing query...:
Only if the same devices will realisticly be used would I consider device CALs.
User CALs are a lot more flexible.
Device CALs also make sense for shift workers. You only have 30 devices bit they are shared by 90 people.
If all users are logging into the same RDS server than do I simply need RDS CALs (for each user) and a single Device CALS for the server?

If I remember your database server is a RDS server too?
In that case you are going to need Server CAL's (Device or User) and RDS CAL's.Which one to choose depends on future plans. If at the moment you have 1 : 1 ration of computers and users then I would go cheaper device CALs BUT! if you think people will start accessing from different devices like tablets/laptops/phones etc then User CAL's make more sense.
Yes, the database is a RDS server so we will indeed need RDS Cals. I assume also this is 1x RDS CAL per user?
User cals probably makes sense as some have two laptops and an office computer. -
BSA Declairing your software license compliance
So a client received a letter today asking them to declare their software license compliance by going to www.bsa.country/uk/declaration and entering their BSA ID.
The letter states its not mandatory but failure to manage software assets and misplaced confidence by management can result in legal, financial and other consequences.
Is this a hoax or is this something the client should do? Has anyone seen this before?
And please note: We dont have any illegal software running as far as I know so should be good to do it but have never seen before so wasnt sure whether to ignore or comply.

RE: WordPress Hosting
Without causing debate...I've used GoDaddy for many wordpress hosting sites and never had a problem! Just saying!

RE: Licensing query...
@hobbit666 stupid question (my licensing knowledge is of a newb), should i choose device CAL, would i just need to license the 1 app01 server for 15users to access it? As opposed to licensing 15user CALs to use the app01 server?

RE: Licensing query...
Hi Guys
Following my convo above about the terminal/rds server setup. I now have this working well so thankyou for helping with that.
As a recap, I have a virtual DC (DC01) to manage our users/groups and a virtual App server (APP01) running with Excel installed which is published as a remote app. Our end users use Pertino to access and run the remote Excel and are authenticated via the DC. I think this works well and keeps the setup more 'internal' and not published over the web which is better for security.
I am currently using the 100 day free licenses for RDS, however my question is when that runs out, should I purchase Device CALS or User CALS?
We have so far 15 users logging in and they pretty much use their own laptops to access the APP01. -
RE: Cloud Provider...what to use
@scottalanmiller thanks - I havent spun anything up yet. Just signed up with DigitalO though.
Is CentOS the simplest then? - thanks for the online book guide. -
RE: Cloud Provider...what to use
I've taken the plunge and have signed up for a Digital Ocean account and will test this on a Linux box - maybe ubuntu...
I dont know anything about these OS though so any points/kick starters would be helpful.
How do I even go about patching this OS! Have I dont the right thing!? -

@Dashrender said in Cloud Provider...what to use:
Why do you want Windows in the cloud?
Ubiquiti controller runs great on linux and will cost you a ton less.
as one example of why not to use windows.I dont know Linux to be honest. If it's just a couple of scripts to run to get it up and running, then I can figure it out.

@Joel said in Cloud Provider...what to use:
My first project will be to host UniFi wireless AP's on a cloud controller. It's pretty simple enough as i understand but im finding the hard part picking what Service provider to use.
Unless you have an Azure requirement, that really shouldn't make the list. Hard to use, expensive, fragile, complex, buggy, poor support... no upsides except unique features. How did this make the short list?
I guess I like Azure because it's Microsoft! But having played a bit with it share your feelings about it
