    • Licensing query...

      HI Guys

So we have 2x Virtual Windows 2012 servers. One will be the domain controller and one will be the database server. When I say database server, it will be used for users to log in (approx 10/15 at the same time) to access Excel/Access and work with a bespoke database.

My question is regarding licensing and the database server itself.
Q: Should I make the database server a terminal server and install the Remote Desktop Services role?
(we're using server 2012 R2) or is it possible to simply connect it to the domain and just allow authenticated and users to log in and use it?

      Thoughts welcomed.
      Thanks

    • Windows 7 64 pro - ISO

We have a HP Pro 3400 MT. Sadly, no recovery partition and would like to reload Win7 pro 64 bit.
Having tried to download the ISO from Microsoft they said - sorry, this product key is tied o the manufacturer and we need to contact them to get the Windows 7 recovery disk - I dont have the time to do that, so wondered if anyone had the HP Windows 7 pro disk to hand or a downloadable ISO link?
      Thanks

    • RE: Advice for new office setup

So, we're actually going for a 1GB bearer so each office will have a super super super amount of bandwidth to play with.
I will probably let it all open as SAM suggested and apply some QOS to priotitise phone and data traffic (can this also be done on Ubiiquiti ER8?) .

I will however limit the guest network in the building to only consume say 8mb for example as I dont want guests using much at all.

The guys are VERY heavy internet users and need a super quick and reliable network to work from so need a reliable and secure base infrastructure

So there will be a single pipe that will come into the building which comes with a failover.
Each office will share the pipe but be its own separate entity in the building. Each office will have its own LAN (on different subnets) and use their own resources (servers, access points, nas etc). I was planning on using the Draytek router to apply specific bandwidth to each office but assume this can also be done on the ER-8?

    • Office 365 email signatures

I can see its possible to apply email disclaimers directly via Office 365 portal.

However, is it possible to apply email signatures (with images and individual names, telephone numbers etc) via the office 365 tenant? If not, any ideas how we can do this without manually going round each computer?

    • Advice for new office setup

So I have a small project coming up and I was wondering how you'd configure the networks infrastructure...

      Here's the brief:

5x individual businesses (approx 15-20 staff each) are set to move into a shared office space.

We're providing a 1GB bearer managed pipe with a 100/100 failover (internet connectivity is a must here) to the office, and the objective is to keep each business segregated and invisible to each other on the LAN, yet share this same pipe.

I was thinking of using a Draytek 2860n inside our LAN as our firewall/router to control and create VLANs using each one of the ports (there are 6) to each individual office.

Each port will be connected to its own dedicated switch to then provide connectivity to the devices in each office.

Is this at all best practice or the appropriate way you'd configure this network?

Your thoughts and advise are appreciated

    • Computer randomly crashes and shuts down!

      Any help here please.
we have a Windows 7 pro PC (only 3 months old) that randomly shuts off!
I've updated all drivers and done basic troubleshooting and almost out of ideas! The crash happens randomly and without warning.

Having checked event vwr, i see the following error under system - and wondered if this is a factor:

"The following fatal alert was received: 44"

    • Hyper V - CPU Processing Power

      hi all.
wonder if you can help. I have a hyperV server with 2 VM instances running - 1 File server and 1 DC.
We've recently installed new AV software (McAfee Endpoint Protection) of which requires an SQL instance which we have installed and is running on the FS server.

I am now finding that the 'McAfee Scanner service' is taking up a lot of CPU space and in turn slowing things down when users access files.
I have modified the 'on-access' demand settings to only scan when writing to disk, not reading and will see how it behaves....But my question was more to Hyper V settings...Under the HyperV settings, there is a Resource Control feature where you can balance resources among the VMS.

I wondered if I could limit or change things here to help CPU usage from over flowing...Any ideas?

    • Changing onboard RAM

      Hi guys.

I have a HP Spectre x360 as per here: http://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/HP-Spectre-13-4000-x360-Convertible-PC/7527520/model/7728881/document/c04608424/

It has on-board RAM (4 GB).
Am I right in saying that this cannot be upgraded without replacing the whole mother board?

Let me know if its possible to add RAM to this.
      Thanks
