RE: Hiding files/folder shares from users
I've just deleted everything so my E:\ directory so it's now empty...Willing to start right from the top...
Step1 - Create a folder called SHARED (E:\Shared) and then under properties > Share > Advanced sharing, will call it 'Shared' and give Everyone Full control.
Step2 - I'll then go to security tab > advanced and disable inheritance (converting to explicit objects) and then remove the local users accounts
Step3 - Whilst in advanced security, I'll add in a new principle (Domain Users) to 'this folder only' and apply advanced permissions (list folder/read data)
So far so good? Whats next as i think i go wrong from here!
Step 4 - Create the sub folders under E:\Shared
ie. E:\Shared\Folder1
E:\Shared\Folder2
E:\Shared\Folder3Note: I've created my security groups and put the relevant users in them already so they are on standby.
What permissions can/should I apply to each sub folder?

RE: Hiding files/folder shares from users
I have ABE setup the same as you - on each folder share.
Our share permissions are specific in that only the Group has full control (and admin)E:\Folder1 (group1 AND domain admin has full control)
E:\Folder2 (group2 AND domain admin has full control)
E:\Folder3 (group3 AND domain admin has full control)
E:\Folder4 (group4 AND domain admin has full control)Does our server need a reboot perhaps for the permissions to kick in? Can I force them or should it happen immediately?

RE: Hiding files/folder shares from users
I do have it setup with NTFS permissions, users are added into groups but it doesnt seem to work.
For example.We have Data (E:)
Within E: we have the following paths
E:\Folder1 (group1 share permissions applied)
E:\Folder2 (group2 share permissions applied)
E:\Folder3 (group3 share permissions applied)
E:\Folder4 (group4 share permissions applied)We only want members of group4 to only see Folder4 when they browse to the server \appserver
We are using 2012r2 and ABE is enabled.Still no joy

Hiding files/folder shares from users
I have a new staff member joining next week. We'd like to give him access to one particular share on the server. However when he browses the shares, I dont want any other files/folders to be visible (although he'll locked out via permissions). Is there a way we can ONLY let him see the share he needs and doesnt see anything else?

NET::ERR_CERT_REVOKED
Hi Guys
I have just taken on a new client who use Windows Server 2011 Standard with Exchange 2010 on prem.
They have an issue where by when I try to access webmail by going to https://remote.DOMAINNAME.com/owa, we get the error that reads:
Your connection is not private
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from remote.domainname.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more
NET::ERR_CERT_REVOKEDAutomatically send some system information and page content to Google to help detect dangerous apps and sites. Privacy policy
ReloadHIDE ADVANCED
remote.domainname.com normally uses encryption to protect your information. When Google Chrome tried to connect to remote.domainname.com this time, the website sent back unusual and incorrect credentials. This may happen when an attacker is trying to pretend to be remote.domainname.com, or a Wi-Fi sign-in screen has interrupted the connection. Your information is still secure because Google Chrome stopped the connection before any data was exchanged. You cannot visit remote.domainname.com right now because its certificate has been revoked. Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will probably work later.
Its been a good 5 years+ since I was working with Exchange on prem so cant remember how I can go about sorting this. Any advice or help would be appreciated.
Let me know if you need any additional info.
Thanks

RE: Netgear Smart Switch + VOIP & QOS + AutoVoip
i'll test it all tomorrow and come back to you if still a prob. thanks guys.

RE: Netgear Smart Switch + VOIP & QOS + AutoVoip
Yes, phones work perfectly fine outside the network!

RE: Netgear Smart Switch + VOIP & QOS + AutoVoip
All calls in and out. Every other word is missed, echoing external voice in background. SIP_ALG is disabled on our Draytek firewall (which has QOS configured). It's a cloud hosted PBX and is brand new. Happening since day 1 (as i am told)

Netgear Smart Switch + VOIP & QOS + AutoVoip
Hi guys, we have a Netgear GS752TP 48port POE switch on a small network (15 users) who have just implemented VOIP phones.
PCs and Phones are all directly patched into the switch. Our internet bandwidth is great 50up 50 down which is more than enough for what we do.
Since installing the phones, call quality has been terrible and i'm sure there are some QOS settings we can play with on the Netgear to get this working well, yet I am not familiar with these kind of settings so wondered if anyone can help?
Our switch has QOS, Voice VLAN or Auto-Voip - can anyone help explain what I need to be configuring/changing to help improve quality of calls?
If you need additional info, please let me know.thanks in advance

RDS licenses for non-profit charities
Hi Guys
I've always struggled with licensing and getting my head around it.
Anyways, we have a client who are not for profit. They have a RDS server of which 15 or so users log onto. How/Where can I purchase RDS cals and do not for profit companies get a charity discount?

Prompt before sending external emails
Hi Team, does anyone know a way to have Outlook prompt before sending emails to external senders so we can help prevent accidental sending to wrong recipients?
IE. I believe this can be done using MailTips or at least MailTips will show a bar at the top whilst we compose indicating who the message will go to?
We use Office 365, so wondered if anyone knows how to enable/setup this kind of feature or any 3rd parties that do this well?
Thanks in advance.

Azure P2S - VPN + Windows 10 login
I have a nusiance issue which I cant seem to get working...
I have created an Azure Point to Site VPN (which works well). However, I'd like the VPN connection to automatically start when the computer starts up as I have domain joined a test laptop to an Azure DC and I am only able to authenticate and login when my VPN is connected.....
Note: if I try to connect as a domain user I get an error "There are no logon servers available"..
Therefore I currently have to login in as a local admin, connect to the VPN, then switch user and then login using my domain user credentials!I have found online articles explaining a way using Task Scheduler but I cant seem to get that working..
Has anyone every come across this or found a solution?

Hosted Data Solution
Hi Team
Wondering what everyone uses for a hosted data solution? We've used Dropbox, Sync, Box, SharePoint, SugarSync over the years and with cloud ever evolving and more and more solutions available I was curious to see what others used as a primary cloud hosted data storage solution.
More specifically, we've just started working with a client (who are just 4 users). They currently have a temp PC acting as their file server. We want to get rid of this and possibly look at utilising a NAS box for its replacement and perhaps sync with a hosted data solution, or otherwise simply use a cloud based solution.
Its a small family run business and there is nothing to hide there - no permissions on folders and everything is open to all.
The downside to Dropbox and similar solutions is that we'd need to download & sync their 200GB to each computer including 1 external user. I'd like to avoid doing that if possible due to lack of disk space and ideally simply have a mapped drive linking to a hosted solution ie Azure data storage or similar but just wondered what everyone else tends to do for small cloud hosted solutions. We do have compliance regs also to consider ie. data must be stored in UK which also rules out Dropbox and similar solutions.
What do you use to map drives linked to cloud storage which can be used anywhere/anytime and has redundancy? Thoughts welcomed.

Sharepoint Files / Folders View
Does anyone have a way of viewing the number of files per folder in a document library within Sharepoint.
One of our clients has exceeded their 5000 limitation and wants to break down each folder in the site library to see which folders are the big ones. I've looked at the view settings in the library settings but it's not really giving results we'd like.
Wondered if anyone had a script of knows something I can do to generate a report on the number of files in each folder?
Thanks

RE: Workflow management/check list
So couple of 'issues'
We took them on after 2years of trading. They have a single document library with over 60,000 files when limitation is 5,000!!! They therefore need to reorganise it all and separate it into different libraries. The way they work at the moment is they map the sharepoint library as a mapped drive. All too often the drive disconnects and we need to remap it. this could be because they use surface pros and are often closing the lid and running around connecting at different locations but this issue is a pain and despite going through steps to keep it persistent it disconnects far too often.
There is often problems with files not opening once saved! I.e. Someone would save a PDF or excel, then 5mins later try to open it and get an error and have to reboot!
Buggy things like that.

RE: Workflow management/check list
okay. In order for me to rebuild their confidence with SP I'd probably suggest they download the new client as I believe it allows you to sync sharepoint libraries to local machines? Has anyone used it as I know the initial sharepoint personal sync tool was crap and very buggy. Wondered if anyone used the new sync agent for site libraries?
The only downside is their computers are 128gb ssd and their data is more than they can handle so may need to change computers for bigger capacity!
