Is it a Linux issue, .NET on Linux issue, or an issue with the software? Running .NET on Linux is very straightforward and is an IT issue. The software is a programming issue. So important as it affects what type of firm you'd engage.

if you buy that service from them - yes. They put a piece of equipment on your network that actually accepts the fax locally, removing the internet from the equation. It then sends a data burst to Skyetel, and then Skyetel puts the call from it's own servers onto the PSTN.

It doesn't - I was only pointing out - if you get fax service from Skyetel - you can get the fax tones provided by skyetel for outbound faxes... you stated something to the effect that skyetel would never do that - and in fact there are cases where they do.

I did. And they don't. Your example makes no sense because I stated that they'd not provide a fax signal outbound on a call. You then stated something unrelated that doesn't have a fax signal. Their service bypasses the call so the situation we are discussing never happens. So in your example case, they still don't do that.

@JasGot why doesn't PJSIP work on them? They should really register just fine using PJSIP. SIP is not supposed to be really anymore on asterisk based systems, its deprecated.

for a year and a half - they have been working well for us. No roaming issues that have been reported either.

@jasgot Let me know what you come up with ... I was just reviewing something similar. I was thinking if the wholesale cost of the phone is like $120 and retail is like $180 ... then to charge $10 / month for phones gives you a cost payback in 1 year, and normal profit at 18 months. I'd think if the contract period is 3 years, then you're for sure in the money and you really hope they keep them for 6 years. We do all inclusive pricing on phone setups meaning we roll in setup, management of the call flow, etc. all in there. So charge whatever you do per extension in that contract with the option of the phones as well. Depends on your business model whether they are a profit center or not. If not, then charge enough to make it worth your while, otherwise, let them get them and worry about warranty on them.

I'm going to make sure that registry setting is applied correctly on a few PCs and then restart them. I'll report my findings on Monday.

I think the answer is, in the rare circumstance that SIP / T.38 is working perfectly, you would not change. We have big customers doing tons of faxing and they desperately need this solution because they can't get SIP / T.38 to an acceptable failure rate.

If you have an ideal setup - modern fax machine, fiber internet, correctly configured ATA (which is, by far, the biggest problem we've had - people just won't read the guides thoroughly), your expected failure rate is about 8% on a T.38 ATA. For small offices who send/receive a fax once in a couple of months, this is a fine solution.

HTTPS ATAs only fail when the party on the other end of the fax fails; which makes them at least as reliable as traditional POTS lines. They are probably more reliable because we will retry the fax 9 times before failing it. So if you need near 100% reliability, you need to use the HTTPS ATAs.

The reason we are charging monthly for the ATAs is because that is how we are charged for them. We have to buy software for these things to work, and its expensive. Most of our competitors who offer HTTPS ATAs charge north of $15/mo.

They recommend having the port opened and forwarded. But it shouldn't cause problems. Correct, this has been there for ages now. STUN errors are common on Cloud Controllers which is all we have.

We have not either. We have many Cisco SPA ATAs in service. All of them behind Sonicwalls. This is the only one connected to Skyetel.

Would need to see the packet as I mentioned above to try and give you any kind of answer on why.
