@thecreativeone91 Ditto, though I recall one particular intel chipset (945? low end P4 skt468/775) that would consistently barf when this was attempted.

I rant that over in my mind, and it seemed that if the reboot failed, you would not get any type of email.

If the reboot failed to run completely (like the system was down, cron had crashed, things were frozen) you would get no email either. You are making the system report on itself with is not good.

That's why the system should reboot itself (no way around that) but the monitoring of whether it is up or not should be done externally.

I downloaded the ISO files on Monday evening.

Tuesday evening I stuck the Windows 10 Home disc in a mahine wit a new HDD and installed.

I was able to skip the product key entry everytime it popped up and complete the install all the way into Windows.

The system is not activated, but is fully functional otherwise.

Just did it as a test because the HDD in the machine died and I happened to be stuck in one place for ling enough to do it.

can you justify having a 15foot network cable, router/VPN as well?

Why would you need any of that. Make sure your computer's firewall is on. And use known sites with HTTPS and you'd be fine.

I agree. It's not a realistic concern for most activities. I really don't care if people can see me browsing 9gag or whatever that is not SSL and HTTPS is a VPN already, so if a VPN is going to protect you, you already have one.

It does mention it as a 'jet,' however it is a ducted fan.

However jet can mean a number of different things, a slab of steal can be cut with a water jet.

Sure those other 'jets' are fine because there is context. In this context though, these planes aren't 'jets,' they are ducted fan planes.

I wonder what the sound differences are between these vs jets vs turbo props, etc?

The APs pull their firmware from the controller. So they either get downgraded or upgraded based on the controller version.

That value isn't a .NET date/time value so Get-Date won't be able to process it properly (hence the year 0415). So I tried this: http://superuser.com/questions/398983/how-do-i-decode-the-faulting-application-start-time-in-a-windows-event-log-ent

      (get-date "01/01/1601").AddSeconds(0x01d0b26dc6a4a844 / 10E+6)

      And got:

      Monday, June 29, 2015 1:16:14 PM

      Seems much better!

Interesting - same link I used. I didn't notice that the read through.

Never had issues with dell warranty service they usually have the best. Sounds like you got a new guy.

My experience as well, they're typically super slick at what they do. Last regular dell tech I had could do a mobo swap in an e6500 in 20min flat which is an impressive feat.
