Dell Warranty Service: Strike (x)
-
My wife's Dell 3000 2n1 laptop has some hinge issues. For some reason the lid does not align with the base. Can't flip it around to be a tablet.
It's under warranty so a call was placed, parts order and service date set.
Tech arrived, and set to work. He's rather pleasant as Tech's go. Arrived with a box of parts, LCD and the hinge assembly.
He arrived at about 3pm, it's just before 5pm and this is the 3rd time pulling it apart.
- Step one
Pull unit apart and remove camera and other sub board NOT included n the parts box.
Assemble camera into new hinge assembly and add LCD (touch screen BTW).
Assemble hinge back to main board.... why are the cables wrong...
Ah - Cables not 'wrong' display is 'upside down'.
Assembled
No Wifi - Touch Screen doesn't work.
- Step two
Disassemble unit
check wires, plug in WiFi (didn't do those the first time around)
Assemble
Screen doesn't work still.
- Step three
Pull completely apart, including the full LCD / Hinge assembly
Recheck all connections.
Assemble
Won't power on. LOL... really!? Wow.
- Step four
Pull back cover, check cables, no reason why it should not power on.
External Power needed?
Powers on.
Final test. Power on, log in, unplug, shut down
Does it power on.
Yes.
Ah - Whoot. job done.

Never had issues with dell warranty service they usually have the best. Sounds like you got a new guy.

My experience as well, they're typically super slick at what they do. Last regular dell tech I had could do a mobo swap in an e6500 in 20min flat which is an impressive feat.
