Yeah I've been interested in getting a "Smart" watch for a while and go like the LG range. I have been looking at the LG GWatchR.
But I think i'm going to hold off until the summer until I get one. (Gives me time to save up for one :))

*Edit - should also add I need to find what apps can be used with them see if its worth replacing my existing watch (Wedding present)

I am still learning more and more about Android Wear...for a lack of better descriptions, the apps you download from Google Play that work with Android Wear seem to work in "tandem." They will find a place in the watch app list and work fairly seamlessly.

    • Performance Monitor - Cannot Connect To Remote PC

I am sure this is a simple solution but a proper search hasn't turned up a matching solution.

I am trying to remote Performance Monitor and all PC's I try come back with this error:

      0_1449090358201_perfMon.jpg

I think it may be something in the global profile for our Antivirus (Symantec Endpoint) but can't seem to find it. It doesn't seem to be the local Windows Firewall.

      Thanks...

Has anyone used the tool called NetDrive? http://www.netdrive.net/

Allows you to view several cloud storage acounts with one nifty Windows or Mac app...I've not tried it yet...just wondering if anyone has had any experience with it.

Looks interesting, but anything of these kind, i am always worried about the auth part. Several instances where things like dropbox lost the auth keys via third party tools.

Yes...security is foremost on my mind.

Since I have left the "all in" Microsoft world, I've expanded my horizon's somewhat and am enjoying what I get from Microsoft, Google and Amazon.

Convinced not to use it...I am kind of digging Amazon's Cloud Storage, since I got it free and unlimited for a year...not as integrated as I would like but also not a pain to use...

    • Google Play Music Family Plan - Showing Up Yet?

I see where Google is finally rolling out the family plan for Google Play Music. I've seen articles that show if you go to REFRESH in your music setting, then you will see option to upgrade to Family Plan. Been there, done that. No option for family plan. Even after an update to Google Play Music today, nothing.

I am assuming the roll-out is just going slow and I'll eventually see it, correct?

I know quite a lot of users likes Outlook/OWA, but just wondering, if you guys are using the same for personal email accounts like Gmail? If not, what else do you use? I am thinking of using Windows 10 default mail app to configure my gmail.

I really want to like the stock Windows 10 mail app. But since the 1511 update, it quit syncing Outlook.con mail (Exchange is fine)...I had to rebuild two of those 3 PC's and it fixed the problem but to me, it isn't a solution and I do not want to rebuild my main home PC just to get the mail app to work. 😞

I put "nice" and "new" in quotes because you definitely should not get new. Check out xByte (see their add on the right over there -----> ) and see how awesome refurb can be. That's all that we buy. Something like a nicer R510 might be all that you need. That will be very cheap. Get a warranty from xByte. So "new to you" and far better than what you have, but nothing crazy.

Checking out XByte now...good prices...would want something strong enough to run all of our VM's...then perhaps re-purpose the current T420 for the redundancy project.

    • RE: Anyone decided to buy Surface book?

Our owner has given a lot of management promotions and since I am the one and only IT Director, I get a Surface Book. So, I am an owner of Microsoft Surface Book (512 GB, 16 GB RAM, Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GeForce graphics).

Impressions after one week? I'm impressed. I am a long time Surface user, having used every version, including both RT iterations. My "dream" was to have a top of the line ultrabook that was also a 2-in-1 and had a GPU. This fits the bill. All of my favorite STEAM games run perfectly on it. Some need a tad lower resolution (ALIEN: Isolation) but still plays and looks great. Battery life is decent. The screen is amazing to look at. I don't pop off the screen much but I like having the option. It is a great developer machine and all around daily driver.

If I had any concerns, I've seen a tad bit of screen flicker but nothing to get alarmed about yet. The hinge is great but I do question longevity. But that's really it.

The Windows store is still a wasteland and universal apps are still not taking off. So my solution? Use Chrome and it's SAVE TO DESKTOP option and OPEN AS WINDOW and it is like having "apps" when saving certain websites.

If purchased for you, I say go for it. It is pricey, even for a very quality product.

      What GPU does that have?

It is a custom GPU along the lines of a Nvidia GeForce 860M. So it isn't a gamers dream, but that said, I CAN game and game well on the go. I've not loaded GeForce Experience on it since this is a custom GPU and before the last firmware update, there were many unstable issues with both the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4.

I've played ALIEN: Isolation with details maxed but but a much lower resolution. Video Rendering speeds with Adobe Premiere have been quite impressive.

@Dashrender said in Best Development Solution For a Development Apprentice Like Myself:

The only thing I can think of is asking management for a dedicated 4 hours a week where you turn off your phone and just work on some study type thing. If the company values you knowing these things, and being able to support them internally, I don't know how else you are to get there.

Of course matching that with 4 of your own outside of work time (tell the wife and kids, sorry, I can't talk to you Tuesdays from 6 to 10 PM - period). This would be no different going back to school and the family knowing they have to give you up while you study.

Good advice...my daughter plays Flag Football time time of year (yes, daughter and she LOVES it...) and I try to study during the 90 minute practices but blasted sun glare off all my devices makes it hard to focus on the screen for serious study. So I waste it reading Feedly or Mango posts. LOL

I may try the study nights...may take some self discipline to not get distracted by things.

    • Print Spooler Keeps Stopping, Won't Stay Running (Windows 10)

I have a single, Windows 10 user who came to me this morning to say he couldn't print. Upon looking at his Devices and Printers window, all printers are "whited out" and show not connected. I checked the Print Spooler, and it wasn't running, so ran it but it didn't help. There is also not an option to RESTART the print spooler.

I logged in as my self and as an Administrator and same problem. All printers show NOT CONNECTED.

So, I went back to print spooler...it will not stay RUNNING...it keeps stopping and I can't for the life of me keep it on...

Don't know about SPO but a simple webpart (plug-in) may do what you want.

There are loads of free charting libraries available, both for server and client side rendering. I do understand that you are not a dev, but this shouldn't be too hard.

So yes, would do this in SP.

I will check it out...and believe me, as I've posted a few times on here and SW, they want me to develop more, especially VBA focused but the interruptions and day to day of being SOLO IT Director doesn't allow for quality dev time.

    • VBA Hint Needed - Change Way An Existing Project Grabs Data

I know it is difficult to seek development help but perhaps a little boost in the right direction could help.

We have a spreadsheet that looks like this:

      0_1464371789886_platebar01.jpg

I added the column W when I started to work on this project and will explain below...

Basically this sheet grabs data (job numbers) from another sheet according to a date range and calculates them with other subroutines and places those job numbers in the cells starting at C2. For the sake of this post, no need to worry about all those other cells because if I can just get this started, the rest will fall into place.

We want to eliminate the need to look at that other sheet based upon date range to get the job numbers and just have the macro (RUN REPORT, top left) grab the "jobs" listed in column W that the user will manually enter.

Just don't know how to tell it, with VBA, to take each job number in column W and do what it normally did the other way and then put a warning up if it doesn't match exactly and to STOP when it teaches a null cell.

Any suggestions on where to find some examples of this? If I can just get this part going, I am fairly confident I can do the rest. I can post the existing subroutines code if needed.

      Thanks so much!

    • 3 Monitor Capable Graphics Card Suggestions

I am looking for a good PC compatible graphics card that will truly support 3 monitors. This is for business and not gaming. Most of our PC's here have graphics cards with 3 ports (of varying types) but the GPU's will only support 2 at one time.

I've searched and I am having difficulty finding one. One of them in the descriptions just come right out and say 3x Monitor support. Any suggestions off hand? I prefer NVIDIA but am open to anything and looking for reasonable costs.

    • Bluetooth Or Standard Headset For VoIP System

I'm looking for some sound advice on a headset for the VoIP system. We recently retired our 21 year old phone system and are on a VoIP system provided by a local and growing provider. The phones are Aastra 6739i. They have Bluetooth built in.

Our switchboard operator would like a headset so she can answer a call when at the copier. She does know she still needs to go back to switch board to transfer but would love to answer calls away from the desk.

So far I've tried the Jabra PRO 920 and Plantronics CS530.

The Jabra had no option to answer phone calls and the Plantronics CS530 did but only if you go take the handset off the base first and then you can talk.

      So, 0-2 so far.

Basically, the office clerk wants the option answer a call when she is over at the copier. She does know she has to go back to switch board to transfer the call but to be able to answer when across the room his huge.

Am I just thinking too big here? Or is there a good device and perhaps a Bluetooth only solution?

    • Crystal Reports Learning - Where Can I Find Resources?

I've been asked to look into Crystal Reports for Microsoft Dynamics reporting. It has been years since I've used it from scratch. We went ahead and upgraded to Crystal Reports 2016 and I've been searching for a good, beginner book and I cant seem to find anything. There is a Dummies book for version 10. Do you think that would suffice? It doesn't look like there have been many revolutionary changes lately. Any other resources to recommend?

I've not seen CR resources since the 1990s, I'm afraid.

Glad my searching skills aren't bad then. I've looked all over and no one is writing about it anymore. I guess I don't have to use CR but considering my current (but growing) skill level, I figured out it would be easier to go Crystal Reports, especially since we already have many CR reports in place.
