    • RE: Replaced HP Printer With Same DNS Name and IP - Won't Ping

Sorry, I didn't see this was posted on my behalf.

After I connected my laptop to the port and got no lights or connection and brought over a 20 foot cable to plug into the printer and then the printer connected, I have determined it is the LAN Jack.

But get this...I connected an old 100 Meg desktop switch I had laying around to that jack and then connected the printer to that switch and then it worked. So they are up and running.

@garak0410 That means your copier should now work.

Plain SMTP, no authentication, or anything.

The only requirement is that it has to use a from address of [email protected]

Sadly, same on both Toshiba Copiers, HP Printers and Dell VTRX:

Failed to connect to SMTP server
      SMTP protocol error
      dell_email_01.jpg

Do you ever have those IT moments where a fix to something makes you feel foolish but those in your field, especially in a SOLO IT SHOP can totally relate...

Well, this is working now...and almost too embarrassed to say why...but I will...

IP Address was wrong...mind you, we used the same one for years...YEARS...and I've spoken with Microsoft Office 365 support 3 times and they know which IP address I was using...why couldn't they have simply said "Oh, this is the problem..."

It was going to a direct IP address and stopped working...
I tried the DNS name and no go.
Finally, though @JaredBusch's awesome help, it exposed the real IP address to use...and it is fully working now...

I do wonder why it just stopped working...but grateful for the help. Hope to see a few of you at SpiceWorld... 🙂

600ms isn't untenable. Can't do phone calls but with some proper setup you can get a lot of things working decently well.

But now reality hits...Satellite Internet isn't all that great...it for sure does have the "Click, wait, bam" result and uploads do struggle...he will let me know how it goes tonight...

Newer ones get pretty good. Older ones tend to be terribly slow.

The currently available ones are still rather slow. 600-800ms, which is better than the original 3000+. The ones with good latency aren't available yet 😞

Yeah, it is pretty bad right now...he has me coming back tomorrow to see if I can make it any better.

      lodge_ping_01.jpg

These are the expected speed. Satellite guy can't fix this without telling you to not use their satellite. 600ms is the standard for "really good" satellite today. At 587, you are getting "better than expected", not worse.

Satellite at 587 is worse than 1.5 meg (forgot it's ms speed) on our other service. So, I may be seeing if we can get out of the contract as the CEO complains that it is virtually unusable at his home/lodge now. I am heading there around 8:30 to check it out. I do know than when I connect via Teamviewer from here, it is noticeably laggy.

Of course - realtime would be horrible at that lag - As Scott already mentioned that VOIP would be unusable.

I think it is time to use his power, name and money to get something better brought out there.

      Update...

We were able to get out of the contract and surprisingly, Verizon fixed their tower and we are back on the Pepwave again.

My take on all the SW stuff (as a persona non grata) is that I could just show up in Austin during the festivities and have a blast without a conference ticket. I know most of the cool kids, why spend 200 bucks to get vendor assaulted?

I was actually thinking about this. I usually got more value from the after events then I did from the conference.

I went last year not knowing if I'd get in just to do the after parties, but got welcomed in so did the full conference. But having been many times, the after events alone are worth the trip to Austin during the conference.

And remember, the "after" events start TWO days before the official conference. Things like the East Siders event, the Salt Lick event, the Scale boat and others are often (but not always) outside of the conference start and stop dates and times. Plus there are loads of Spicehead meetups. So if are looking for ways to make it valuable, you can easily spend six days there and get loads of value and never go into the conference.

But honestly, once you are getting the flight, hotels, etc. just spend $99 and eat your other meals with everyone else.

I immediately asked to go next year...our President said he wants to make it a regular thing, but wants to "see how things are" closer to the next one...regardless, I'll take it as PTO...I'm going back... 🙂

I am curious though, how do you get into a gig to review tech and keep the hardware? Sounds pretty cool, do you work with a site we can read the reviews?

      Thanks!

I started writing reviews for a company on a volunteer basis in the late 90's and sometime in the late 2000's, they approached me to be a part of their review and keep program. I never thought my writing skills were all that good but it made an impression them.

I've been in theatre for 28 years (community level)...I've been in the kids ministry for 5 years (not ordained but as a volunteer and once as Interim Pastor as they searched for a new one.) I'm in front of the kids all the time and have done a few things in front of our congregation (large church)...last night, after this skit me and the kids pastor did (pictured), I was told I'd have to lead the congregation in a prayer...THAT, my friends, was so scary...not sure what it is about public prayer but to choose the words and lead 200-300 that were there last night, man I was scared but it went well...and I got to use my Surface Pro 3...:)

Well done! Did you have it written down or just wing it?

I did scribble down (with my Surface Pen) words to say during the prayer...and pretty much followed it...

    • RE: Exchange Online Migration From POP3

I want to give a BIG Thank You to everyone in this thread who helped me make this a smashing success (unless something is waiting to creep up on us.) Beyond the long sync time for a few users, no major issues at all. A few people still had the old IMAP/POP3 account on their phone and it would occasionally bounce off it and not get sent but nothing major for sure...

I couldn't have done it with out everyone and I am very grateful.

I only have one issue left and that is duplicate calendar reminders...got a user who is getting them and cannot figure out why...he only has one calendar attached to his profile...I tried outlook /cleanreminders and it didn't help...suggestions?

That was always the scariest thing to me as well as a youth leader. I was fine when it was the teens but do a special service where all the adults are present and forget it!. Though learning to pray in Lingala was even scarier.

Even scarier, we had an altar call (like we usually do with the kids services) and while no kids came down, two adults did and came to me and I was like "Uh, oh..." but I just relaxed, listened to them and had prayer with them and it went well...a lot of growing that night...

This is NT 6.4. They really only have the "this is horrible" issues on X.0 release (Windows 2000 - NT 5.0, Windows Vista - NT 6.0.) It's mostly the shock of the new system that makes people upset. Windows 10 can't be a "new Vista" as it is actually the latest update or patch to Vista!

Surprisingly I find myself less concerned with "will it work" - I'm pretty confident it will.

Mostly I fear the public's reaction to it. Also I'm not a huge tile fan.

I am most excited about the "universal app" concept and the potentially easy way to convert Android/iPhone apps over to mobile/tablet OS. Really interested in this the most...time will tell.

    • Amiga Memories

I've seen Amiga mentioned many times in here and was wanting to see if anyone wanted to share any Amiga memories...

My first glimpse of an Amiga was an Amiga 1000 running the NewTek Demo on two floppy drives. I had never seen anything as amazing as that demo. I watched it loop over and over again. Using Paranomia as the song was such a good idea. My favorite part was the 4 monitors part with the animations (Betty Boop) and loved when all 4 were playing...

Then I met someone with a 1000 and got to play with it...that's when I found it was more than just graphics...at the time, to me, it seemed like a good and powerful OS.

So, I was determined to sell my Commodore 64 and get an Amiga 500. That meant shutting down my Commodore 64 based BBS on Ivory Joe Software that I had been running for 2-3 years. So, packed up my Commodore 64, 4 disk drives and loads of "cough copied cough* games and marched down and got me an Amiga 500 with 1084 monitor with stereo speakers. I was hooked from there...I remember saving the $200 for the 512K memory expansion to take me to 1 meg of RAM and it made a world of difference.

I finally sold it and got me a 2000 which I eventually held on to until the mid 2000's. It was going to take a lot for me to give up my beloved Amiga. Eventually went via EBAY and got me a Video Toaster and was hooked on LINEAR editing. Never could get the Flyer.

I think my favorite games were Cinemaware games...Rocker Ranger, Defender of the Crown, Wings, It Came From The Desert....
