What happens with estimating02 if you try to ping the DHCP, DNS, or AD servers? Is that what is not working?

I will go try right now...and again, only picking on estimating02 because the user is out today...over half our PC's are having this "not pining" problem and those same users are having that one program randomly lock up when doing heavy writing to a network share.

Estimating02 CAN ping the Domain Controller, DHCP/DNS Server and File Server.
The Domain Controller, DHCP/DNS Server and File Server cannot ping Estimating02.

      From the Domain Controller ...

nslookup estimating02.yourdomain.local and ensure the IP it returns matches with estimating02's actual IP?

      Server: localhost
      Address: ::1

      Name: estimating02.domainname.local
      Address: shows correct IP address

Is Estimating02 able to surf the internet without issues, and it only has problems accessing SMB file shares / in-house stuff?

Or is the only problem when this one application tries to do stuff?

Estimating02 is only having the problem where the program MBS (which writes heavily to a network share) will just lock up at random during writing. (side note...even PC's that ping are having this random lockup issue). It is the one application that is having the problem. We use Microsoft Dynamic's (on a VM on a second virtual host) and had no issues...

No internet surfing problems for estimating02.

And a reminder...on the PC's that I can't ping, and I am sure it stands to reason, I can no longer access their C$ as a Domain Admin.

So the issue with MBS started after you uninstalled Symantec?

Have you run one of the Symantec uninstaller / cleanup tools on this system and not just removed it from Add/Remove Programs?

Not yet as Symantec says I need to open a support ticket and can't freely download it...I do think it is from removing Symantec from the Domain Controller and File Server...what it left in its wake...I'll open a ticket with them...I've also enlisted the help of WebRoot too to see if they could shed light on it...

Love being in a SOLO IT shop but these are the days I wish I had a team...thankful for everyone here on ML! 🙂

If you want someone to look at the capture file after you get it running, I can help.

Thanks...I did have that MBS program lock up while I was capturing so I filtered to that workstations IP and wireshark didn't capture any file transfers to our file server...I assume I need to set a different capture filter to look for that?

In fact, it isn't seeing anything to and from our file server except when I ping to it.

      Sounds like it to me

Wireshark, running on my PC, doesn't see any of the PC's that won't Ping by the way...and then this...

Back to the grind today on this. I do have a call scheduled with WebRoot to see if they can shed some light on this. I imagine it is one dang setting somewhere but can't seem to find it.

I had WebRoot uninstalled on Estimating02 all weekend. So since the user was out today, I was able to do a few things...the first thing I did was release/renew IP address...and then reboot...BAM, it pinged...I reinstalled WebRoot...it is pinging still...and Windows Firewall is turned OFF (Webroot Firewall is on)...Webroot did call me and said it is OK for Windows Firewall to be on so may turn it on later (user actually came into work, so can't play with Estimating02 right now).

So, I am making a master list of PC's that won't ping and may try this on a few more to see if it helps...Drafting02 is next... 🙂

    • iPhone Old Phone / New Phone Sync Problems

Deep Breath...daughter of our company President. iPhone 128GB full of pictures she doesn't organize and almost out of space. Let me just get that off my chest first. But don't judge...I'm always pleased and happy to help. This one is just difficult.

She received a new iPhone 7. With previous iPhone 7's here, I simply backup old phone to iTunes (usually on my PC, Windows) and restore to new phone and it has always worked. Well, her phone doesn't seem to ever end the backup to iTunes on her Mac. We've always had to stop it because she has places to go and can't wait on it. So she said that she has backed up to iCloud as she purchased a TB of space...fine...I told her to restore her new phone from iCloud. Well, that backup was from October 22nd from last year...coincidentally, it was October 22nd of this year she got the new phone, so she thought it was a fresh backup.

So she has had the iPhone 7 with a backup restored from a year ago and has taken pictures and made iMessages for over a week.

So question...what do I do here? Do I take her old phone and force an iCloud backup? Will that then sync with the new phone?

Do I backup the old one again (attempt to), factor reset her new phone and then restore the most current backup from old phone?

How can I ensure both phones are backed up on iCloud?

      Thanks...

The perils of being a SOLO IT Director (and IT guy)...not only is management demanding this be fixed, but for me to develop on a project they want progress on, and troubleshoot why AutoCAD LT 2017 stopped working today for users, and why a VBA Spreadsheet is crashing when it hasn't in the past, and why a few of our IP Camera's went down and why some printers are smudging on PDF's, and why our drafting program still locks up since we migrated to WebRoot.

They've even suggested maybe we shout outsource part of my job for a few weeks to get caught up...ego hit!

Thanks for the tips...they want a solution picked out by tomorrow...gonna do my best...

      Invoice Ninja looks awfully good.

It does look good...we don't need the online payments portion but for something simple, it looks good. I think the two main needs are the ability to customize the invoice numbers to begin with "MS-" and then increment numbers and the ability to make fields REQUIRED...working with Invoice Ninja now on those questions...

@scottalanmiller We have a REST API and a PHP SDK, more info here...

      https://www.invoiceninja.com/api-documentation/

Awesome, even better. That would be the way to go! Stick with the hosted version, build a local reporting tool via the API.

This, if it's an easy API, which most are, then developing your own reports against the it would be trivial. The missing fields may be a bit more difficult to overcome but that may be user training.

All still way above my skill level and time needed. Trying to collate all of this info and inform management so we can "sidetrack" from the requested "legacy" developer they wanted to hire.

But WAY below the skill level needed to make and maintain the alternatives that were being proposed.

Agreed...just have to show management the time and resources needed for this project. But still going to enjoy my week off next week... 🙂

Do you have a GUI on this server?

      Yes...running latest Ubuntu DESKTOP version...

      Why the "desktop" version?

Linux has always been designed as a server first, and things removed for the desktop version. If you're using this to host applications, you really should use the "Server" version.

Just honest ignorance of Linux options...trying server now...

I've set up Ubuntu Server...so, trying the install again... 🙂

    • RE: Invoice Software - Office 365 Or Purchase Software Suite?

Quick update...I've had zero time to devote to this because Accountant needed an ancient VB6 program enhanced and took me 1/2 of last week to do this. And this week, another manager wants me to convert an Excel Sheet to a web-based database. Office manager still demands an invoice program in 2 weeks and wants that "legacy" former IT guy to be involved...she ignored my pleas for help and friendly reminders that what she wants can't be done at my work load/skill level and the fact they don't want to pay a developer. Not counting the day to day (our VOiP system needed some work, a few PC rebuilds and phone replacements)...

And this point, it would be easier for me if I could run this Invoice Ninja (self-hosted) on my Windows Server 2012 R2 Applications/Web Server but even had struggles getting that going...

    • Access Web Application With SharePoint Online - Set Relationships

Any Office 365 users out there that can answer this question? If you create an Access Web Application that saves to SharePoint Online with Office 365, how can you go in and set relationships with the tables. Considering I've checked every tab and setting, I'm thinking this is something that can't be done.
