"I have access and visibility into data that basically doesn't exist anywhere else in the world" - Nicole Forsgren, VP of Research and Strategy at GitHub in episode 755 of RunAs Radio

      http://www.runasradio.com/Shows/Show/755

In context, she is actually referring to the data she can get from other Microsoft teams, but it does make you think of the flip side. A company like Microsoft owning GitHub can probably make enough use of the data that they wouldn't even need GitHub to make money.

Still using my Pixel 2 XL. New Samsung 21 Ultra is arriving tomorrow, and then sending the 2XL to Verizon for a $600 credit.

      I just bought a Pixel 2

If a device is licenced with Windows 10 Enterprise with SA, the primary use of that device can access windows 10 on VDI from that device. If the primary user of that device needs to access Windows 10 VDI from another device there is an add-on licence that can be purchased. It looks like they no longer me too it in the licencing brief. It might help to look at older licencing briefs since the focus is mostly on per user licences now.

@flaxking Thanks. Still looking for an expert.

Well, if I was consulting someone and your OP was all the info I has my first question would be, where are you looking to host, on-premise or off site?

If you're looking off site, there if is definitely benefits to hosting on Azure if you have a certain M 365 subscriptions, as well as certain limitations if you don't. WVD is the only place where multi-user Windows 10 is a available. If off site and not Azure, either the hosting company need to be a QMTH or you need a dedicated physical server to your company in order to run Windows 10 and Office 365 apps.

@scottalanmiller How do you define IT?
To me a programmer is doing IT, but development and not operations.

To IT, programmers are "just more end users." And to programmers, IT is their support people.

This is truth. Even for the product that the developers develop.

Cross educated people are valuable, and IT/Dev is kind of standardly recognized. However, being a beginner in both doesn't fit that mold and can actually hurt your resume when trying to get into the field. If you highlight IT on a junior Dev position, it can look like you don't understand the position the job is for and your resume could get instantly tossed right there.

Well, you might not notice less negativity, but it is certainly less crowded.

Back when I got my A+ the job offers I received were printer technician, bench tech at big box store, and service writer at an MSP. All of which were a pay cut from my current non-IT job.

Learning o365 is not rocket science

Should we licence our staff for Microsoft 365 E3 + E5 security or
      Office 365 E3 + Windows 10 E5 + EMS E5?
Will our business feel the missing compliance features if we go with M365 E3 + E5 security?

Cause then, this could bring more people into ML and give them a place to look for themselves and figure out which would be better for them .

cause it's all in one place. and could give someone else a better understanding.

Yup, it's a good discussion to have, even if the result is "this isn't the right question to ask." That's great, so what IS the right question to ask?

My thoughts are: "what's more important to have a certification in to get a better job - O365 or Azure?"

It depends what the starting point is. But say someone in a helpdesk role asked me if a Microsoft 365 certification or Azure cert would help them get into a non-helpdesk role considered 'higher up the ladder' I'd say Microsoft 365 certification.

I'd say there's probably more roles out there to move up into. Companies may be using Microsoft 365, but could be using other providers for their cloud infrastructure. They might also expect their cloud engineers to know multiple platforms. I had experience creating highly available environments on-premise before breaking into Azure.

Microsoft 365 Admin > Azure engineer isn't a bad transition down the road either. Exposure to Azure AD is going to help with Azure.

It's also really hard to say "I know Azure." Azure is made up of a ton of different services. I'm an Azure Admin Associate and Azure Developer Associate and there's probably a lot of Azure services that I haven't heard of.

If you don't have a strong foundation in IT, is it easier to learn Microsoft 365 or Azure in a way that you can show your experience in a way to pursue a career in IT?

I'd say probably Microsoft 365. A certification is probably the easiest way to show experience in this situation and while Azure Fundamentals is accessible, I'd say it's value is low, and Azure Admin Assoc assumes a lot of base IT knowledge.

In my SMB experience, SA work is not even the predominant role when working on servers. It's LOB management.

Now a book on application management concepts would be interesting.

It would be, fo sho. The challenge there would be picking a stack or app. Like... WordPress on Apache with MariaDB would be one. That could make sense.

QuickBooks on Windows 2019. That could work (but pretty simple.)

It's extremely hard to do anything general as each app is generally extremely unique. Even two PHP apps can be wildly different to the point of not being able to recognize them as related.

I've feel like you're seeing the same challenge people had with writing sysadmin books.

An app managed by an experience IT generalist and one managed by say the manager of some department look setup very differently in my opinion. I believe the way the IT generalist approaches any app and sets it up could be outlined. Though it would probably have to use examples of things that of course won't be available or applicable in every app.
