I'm thinking of getting something too and finally disconnect the landline. We will mostly use internet, but we need a backup if the internet goes down, other than driving until we get signal.

weBoost is the common booster around here, but I'm hoping for something cheaper.

      Get Starlink as a backup.

Already did preorder, just a waiting game now. And Starlink probably isn't going to be the backup.

For going open source, I believe someone had created a POS for Tryton, but I think you'd probably be looking at creating your own module for the hotel side.

I would think you would be able to use robocopy to do a diff

Probably, but the issue still comes down to system resources.

Anything that is storing in memory will quickly consume the available resources.

Maybe if I pipe the about to a file it won't be so bad..

It's bound to be a lot more efficient than your powershell.

It's still going to consume more ram than any host in the environment has to process the job. Just between any 2 directories there's over 20 million files.

I don't know how it's implemented, so I can't say. Just create a new powershell script that doesn't store as much in memory. I think if you pipe to ForEach-Object it actually starts operating before the get-childitem gets all the objects and then don't store those objects in a variable. So maybe it will start garbage collection before you are done

Has anyone played with Windows Defender Application Control, specifically Group Policy to turn it on for each workstation?

I have a request from a client to do this, but I am very leery of using group policy for something like this.

Are they all running Win 10 Enterprise?

For sure no... Win 10 Pro.

Then it won't work as it's a requirement.

I think specifically it's using Group Policy for WDAC that's enterprise edition only, right?

What impressed me about Insight was that I went through 2 account managers in a year and they all provided consistent excellent service. I figured they must have a really good training system in place.

Great experience with Insight Canada account managers. Not so great experience with CDW.

Ingram Micro and Synnex were ok, RMAs always were a pita.

I have used Remote Utilities in the past. Not bad for 10 free systems.

I've also used Remote Utilities before. It worked well and RDP mode was pretty slick. However, I don't believe it is designed around one time access.

    • FOSS Android parental control

I'm interested in having a a dedicated Android device for my soon-to-be two-year-old.

I'm not sure if I'm really comfortable with parental controls from any of the big players. I was thinking LineageOS and then a launcher with good parental controls. I've looked around a bit for a launcher, but I haven't seen a clear contender yet.

Are there any good launchers for kids that you would recommend, or any other apps to aid in parental control that I should look into?

Should be Morroblivion IMO, but I'm probably going to just be playing different versions of Morrowind for the rest of my life. Maybe Morrowind will be the first VR game I play.
