Any vendors people want to recommend or warn off with regards to endpoint and server protection? We're shopping options to replace our current NG solution. Currently on a call and it's kinda meh.... I'm not a fan of sales in any context and this seems to be lots of sizzle and not a lot of steak (or bacon... substitute your delicious protein of choice)

Crowdstrike has worked well in a few large places I've seen. It's great cross platform.

That's what we just moved to.

      hello.

i'm looking for a windows based (or anything that can be used easily by a non linuxite) FREE imaging app that can perform restores via a script / command line.

I have to reimage 50 new PCs.

in the past i've used free gui based apps, booted up, clicked here and there and the job was done. But i'm getting lazy and would just like to be able to boot up, click on script and walk away.

I could afford up to 10 bucks if the right thing can be found.

      thanks everyone.

      You try MDT?

No I haven't. I need something that doesn't need a network. Thanks for the help.

You can do network less MDT deployments.

      It's not easy

So why bother? Choice of plain water or soda, just do plain water.

I also drink plain water but because I've been drinking soda for my entire life and I crave carbonation

I'm probably the weirdo here, but even when I drank soda I preferred it flat. I hate carbonization unless it is really trivial.

Instead of sparkling water, I'd prefer tonic water. I love quinine.

Non carbonated or flat soda is just gross. At that point, it's just a disgusting flavoured juice. Carbonation is what makes it what it is.

I find air in drinks odd. It's bitter and unpleasant and makes my stomach hurt.

      FIFY.

Software RAID is used and recommended all of the time for people and orgs that can maintain it.

What type of maintenance is required for real software RAID?

Maintenance as in "oh shit a drive died, what do I need to do?"

Because hardware raid makes this stupidly simply, pull the drive, install new drive let it auto rebuild. Software raid requires you to mark a drive as bad, eject the disk from the array, shutdown the server, replace the drive, mark the new drive as a replacement and then rebuild the array.

      Just different management/maintenance process.

I think everything but shutdown the server. I was able to replace a drive hot with MD-RAID on my little test box.

I switched from State Farm to Amica a while back. Haven't looked back.

I'm getting ready to switch from State Farm. They've been jacking my rates up every 6 months for the last 3 years... and I go back down to the local office and fuss, and they fix it again... I'm getting tired of that.

I have farmers and they have been doing the same thing to me too. I fuss, but it doesn't do any good. They say that it is a state wide increase. I'm considering other options.

I use Liberty, they've been great.

I am a little jaded about insurance companies. The Law firm I worked at for 7 years represented insurance companies and they will weasel out of anything they can. They are not in business to pay claims but deny them, sure some should be denied but others that shouldn't get caught up in it. Then they pay firms like the one I worked at to battle you in court. They can afford the cost, most people can't.

Insurance is 100% a scam. I like the idea of a protection pool but the way it's implemented for vehicles and homes is most definitely not the that.

Progressive has been great with me, I am paying same rate with probably 5 to 10 dollars up from when I started 8 years ago. not bad.

Progressive just did the rate hike business with us. We're going to start looking at a different provider.

Do you have home insurance with it bundled up?

No, tried to but they wouldn't ensure our late 1800's farm house. We've since sold it and will be looking to bundle our new home (when we purchase it) with whomever we have our auto insurance through.

      Wife made pot roast.

      is she not a vegetarian?

      Vegetarian pot roast, of course.

What is the protein made from?

      Could be soy or beans.

So what makes the roast part of that then?

Isn't roast just a cooking method?

I'm sure that's how it's being used in this case - definitely outside of my box of thinking of a 'roast', meh.

Pot roast is supposed to be a braised beef dish. But I've see it done with beans and mushrooms.

wondering if I should go to the gym tonight. I know I should, but I have Zero motivation.

I've been doing early morning workouts, mostly weight training. I'm way too out of shape but even I feel a bit more energetic during the day.

I tried to wake up early this morning because I also feel better throughout the day but man this morning was rough. I still want to work out and not use that as an excuse to not go but it's so easy to procrastinate and forget about it.

I would be in the same boat. So I roped one of my friends/coworkers into working out with me. We have keys to the campus gym so it just kind of works out.

I use one 2k monitor... I'm debating on getting a second one but then I'd have to update my graphics card to support more then one display port.

Did you make this one yourself or buy the ready to use from them?

I purchased this one... only took 8 days to get it here. I was debating between this and a Tobii Eye tracker.

      That's some really interesting stuff

It's pretty cool. Still have quite a few little tweaks to work out but I was surprised at how much more immersed I was in this game when my head movements were mirrored by the avatar on screen.

I guess I haven't mentioned it yet, but I'm currently starting a small side business with a friend. We will sell our own head tracker and probably other (gaming) hardware.

We tried a few of them and eventually designed our own. Wireless, approx. 30 hours battery time (rechargeable), approx. > 170° horizontal recognition, weight approx. 50 grams / 2 oz. I could start a thread on this if anyone is interested, but please keep in mind that this is more a hobby than a business 😉

I'm interested. I would love if someone made an open source hardware version of this kind if like the original ed tracker. I'd be interested to see someone do something like this with 6dof.

There are serveral thingiverse models available if you like a DIY solution. I'm afraid our product won't be open source. It's not exactly rocket science, most information is freely available online. But we invested a lot of effort into this (finding suppliers, designing PCB and Clip, German / EU law compliance and what not) would like to see at least some "ROI" 😉

BTW, ours is 6 degrees of freedom.

      Then I'm interested either way.
