We had the same problem with VitalPBX, and @ScottAlanMiller's suggestion, we made the Opus codec the highest priority and it resolved the issue for us. Maybe it is worth a try for you?

PTR records are handled by the ISP.

They are not something that should ever result in a domain name like this. but at some point in history, people always tried to contact their ISP to have PTR updated to thier mail server DNS name.

      it's part of anti-spamming.

      No, it is not.

This kind of thing might be what Dash is thinking of.
      https://www.altn.com/Support/KnowledgeBase/KnowledgeBaseResults/?Number=KBA-01904

While not explicitly a tool for anti-spam, I remember an MDaemon installation I inherited have reverse lookups enabled.

NO, old guides used to claim that you needed to setup PTR for on site Exchange to make sure you had not SPAM issues. I know what he is talking about. Jus tthat it has never been fact, no matter what people used to say.

I'm with Jared on this. Yes, historically it was common to do this thing but it was a myth. It's just one of those things that people repeated a lot but had no technical reasoning behind it. People generally don't understand DNS and so DNS becomes one of those magic black boxes and once someone made up that PTR could have something to do with SPAM people ran with it. But it was never part of a spam blocking or reduction mechanism, it was just a random, foolish technical mistake that people made thinking that it might have something to do with something else that they didn't understand.

Go into your @Skyetel endpoint setting and make sure it is talking to your PBX on port 5160 also.

      9e3c2ef7-462b-49f6-ae9f-036c302f4b68-image.png

This seems likely to be my issue then. I had left it at 5060 in the skyetel portal as you showed above and initially had it port forwarded to 5060 on the FreePBX. When I realized that I had set port 5060 up as the chan_sip port instead of the pjsip I changed the firewall to forward 5060 to 5160 on the FreePBX. I'll try making the change in the Skyetel portal directly to 5160 and just direct port forward 5160 in the morning.

As @JaredBusch figured, this fixed my issue. Once I made this change I had two way audio and no call's being taken down prematurely.

Audio issues are always port related. Though mostly because firewalls are fucking things up.

CenturyLink/AT&T/Verizon, etc are all carriers AND ISPs

But all, by law, and by physical necessity, MUST operate them as two different things. That one company owns two businesses is just common sense. That's not relevant, it's still bundling versus not bundling. And none of them pretend that they are combined, all of those sell them separately, proving the point.

No internet - no phones : this is an issue in that we don't have redundancy on our network link, but there has not been any network outage since the fiber was installed at this particular site several years ago. Not sure what I can do on this short of say we could keep a POTS line or two for emergencies but that of course starts to eat into the cost savings some also.

Maybe you can setup a 4G link as redundancy instead. Voip traffic doesn't require that much bandwidth so even if you only get 2 Megabit/s or something it is still plenty.

I would suggest against this - a lot of the 4G carriers do crazy things with NAT that SIP Trunks really really do not like. We run into CGN problems all the time:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier-grade_NAT. It also can create issues with UDP Fragmentation.

But if you are using a hosted PBX is that really an issue?

You can mitigate it somewhat, but yea, its still an issue. The best way to get around it with a hosted PBX is to use a VPN between the phone and the PBX. That will bypass most of the NAT issues and keep the phones routing the way they should. You can still get dropped calls though.

Looks like your question was answered here from last year.

      https://community.freepbx.org/t/solved-queue-blf-hints/49665

      Thanks, this did it.

I had put an extra * between the toggle code and the extension. Which interestingly enough still worked to allow an agent to login/out but didn't work with the BLF hints apparently. Once I changed as per the link you referenced it worked as expected.

For those that are interested I changed the BLF value in the EPM definition to :

      *45__line1Ext__*730

(no * between *45 and the extension number):

Now a core show hints displays :

      *45250*730@ext-queue: Custom:QUEUE250*730 State:Idle Presence:not_set Watchers 1

To my knowledge, there is nothing you can do to get rid of it without custom dial plan.

This process simply prepends the text to the existing variable.

      Ok, Thanks.

The best use of parking is simply blind transfer via DSS key directly to a specific slot.

No one wants to waste time and a button with a park key that you then need to wait for an announcement to know where the call went.

That makes much more sense. I think I put the blinders on and focused too much on replicating the old system without thinking if there was a better way.

@BraswellJay said in FreePBX assign commercial module to installation?:

      @JaredBusch

I think I figured this out. The thing I needed to do was to stop and then start FreePBX.

      I did :

      fwconsole stop fwconsole start

When it started back I saw the following as part of the output :

      Updating License Information for xxxxxxxx

where the x's were my deployment ID

I'm thinking this must be where it went out and queried and saw I had purchased those two modules.

Both SysAdmin Pro and the Endpoint Manager screens now look like your samples.

      Thanks for the help.

One question. When you have purchased these through the GUI instead of the portal as I did do you normally have to restart or does it just figure that out and is immediately available?

It is all handled in a reboot.

I buy these during initial turn up time and as part of that, I will always perform a final reboot before begining the actual configuration. Because one of the turn up steps requires setting the timezone, and that is not applied fully until a reboot.

Honestly, I simply assumed that you had already turned it on and off again.

      You could have used

      fwconsole restart

or clicked the update activation in the web GUI also.

Do you generally use the Endpoint Manager or any of the other commercial modules?

There is no commercial module that we use regularly. But we've got some clients that use many.

There are pretty much zero reasons not to add SysAdmin Pro for $25. Getting the email config in the GUI and the ability to tell the web server to use authentication for the config files saves more time than the cost to do it yourself manually.

When I get a chance this afternoon I may configure one and see if that at least resolves the issue, though I didn't think I needed STUN for this particular use case.

So I haven't totally found root cause but it appears to be an issue with my windows profile on the machine I was running Linphone on.

I installed Linphone app on my phone and everything worked perfectly.
Installed desktop app on a spare laptop and everything worked perfectly.
Logged in as different user on original machine and everything worked perfectly.
Logged back in as myself on original machine and no go.

I only need this for some testing. Once we get set up we'll be using Yealink phones so I may not look anymore since I can use my phone for the testing.

Thanks to all for the help.

I figure I'd just throw this out there just for the heck of it...

For what it's worth, I use a Cisco ISR 2851 as an FXS and FXO gateway in my home lab and am very happy with it. You can nab them pretty cheap on eBay (either a 2851 or 2821 would work). You'd just need either two VIC2-4FXO cards or for the more adventurous an EVM-HD-8FXS/DID with two EM-HDA-6FXO daughter cards and something to terminate the RJ21 connector with (like a 66 block or a breakout cable)...the former is likely easier though :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
