I have a web-series called the awkward gamer where I review video games. It's kind of like the other 92,386 video game review video series on the internet except better. So please check it out because I like the attention.

You are, completely randomly, SO close to tons of NTG people.

What is this NTG you speak of? I saw at least one person on here mention that they worked there.

    • Video games!

There's no specific video game category yet so I am taking it upon myself (as the person most appropriate to do so) to create a thread about them. So... we'll start with the basics.

      Who plays them?
      How many you got?
      Favorite console?
      Favorite game on said console?

      I'll go first!

I play them... ALL of them.
1,503 (not counting digital downloads or the arcade roms on my MAME cabinet.)
      Super Nintendo
Three way tie between Link to the Past, Yoshi's Island, and Super Mario RPG.

    • RE: What's Your Current Project?

At work my current project is finishing up deploying some new reports to our SSRS server. Then I have to go back through and inventory everything on there and update/remove anything identified as outdated or unused. I want to get that done soon because coming up in the next week or so we'll be doing some major system changes that will consume the team of everyone on my IS team.

Outside of my actual job my major project is designing and deploying the website for my Awkward Gamer series and also learning the point of, and then using, Twitter for my series as well. I figure it's about time I actually utilize social media to try and get slightly more attention to my web series.

    • My web series/web site

So I have my Awkward Gamer videos and I decided to buy myself a domain (theawkwardgamer.com) and start up a website for the series. That way I can have blogs and the such to accompany my review videos and when YouTube gets wonky and subscriptions aren't working (which happens often) people can still see my stuff. However, I know nothing about web design or web hosting.

I'm gonna pay for hosting, because it's much cheaper than getting my own server and paying for business-class internet. So, do any of you have any suggestions/recommendations for who is a good web hosting service? I was gonna go with host gator because I heard they were good, but even though they advertise their monthly prices, they charge you in bulk and while I could easily afford $5 or $6 a month, I don't have an extra $180 to pay for the next 3 years up front.

Also, does anyone know of a good web site builder? Preferably something drag and drop with some basic stuff built into it like Blogs or a comments section or shop components?

Oh, and for anyone interested who missed all the spamming of it I did over at SW, here's the Facebook page and YouTube channel for my show. Check it out if you have some free time because I could use the extra views.

    • Over documentation

At what point is it too much? I just had a meeting where we created a document about how to create the document for the project plan of a project so that we can present that document in a different meeting. I will literally spend hours doing meetings and documentation around this project before I ever actually get to start doing any real work. Sometimes I miss my crappy menial labor jobs because there you were just told what to do and you did it however you could. No meetings, no paperwork, no documentation. Request for work was presented, work was done, end of day.

This is a perfect example of information I didn't know I needed.

    • RE: What Does Your Home Lab and Office Look Like?

No picture support yet? Darn, I just took a good one of my desk.
      Well, the important things are:

      1. An artist proof MtG card, signed, with hand-drawn alternate art covering the back of the card (worth more than the PC itself.)
      2. A printer I've used exactly once
      3. Pictures of my niece and nephew to remind me that kids are cute when they aren't mine and aren't always in my house wrecking my stuff.
      4. D&D books I, sadly, never get to use.
      5. Cards against Humanity (because duh!)
      6. a few model Corvettes
      7. a yo-yo for when I'm brain dead and too lazy to get away from my desk.
      8. My NAS full of movies, music, TV shows, random YouTube videos I've downloaded to save time having to look them up, and lots of random pictures of dumb stuff that I can now pull up remotely.
      9. Post-its reminding me of games I need to play (and then review), movies I need to download, and sates of when all the things I pre-ordered on Amazon or backed on Kickstarter will actually be charging my card.
      10. A yet unread graphic novel I bought two weeks ago (Fables: The Deluxe Edition - Volume 2, if you care)
      11. A sack of various dice
      12. A big ol' speaker and several smaller ones that make really pretty noises when I turn them up. Although the turntable on the other side of the room makes much louder and prettier noises so it tends to win most times.

There's a PC in there too somewhere, but that seemed less important.

    • RE: Anyone else laughing about the title of this board?

I won't lie, I laughed when I saw it was called Water Closet because even though it's rarely called that here in the states, I know what the term is usually used for and I still find bathroom humor funny (because apparently I'm six.)

When today started out, it was only 4 degrees. Now it's up to almost 15! And with the wind chill it's still above 10. It's almost swimming weather here in NY!

I often play with fish, yes.

Dumb jokes aside, no, I am not. Mostly because I am absolute rubbish at all things FPS.

@Hubtech Agreed. At the moment, EVERYTHING new shows up. That's going to get annoying QUICK!

      Quickly 😉 [GN]

That is how I have always used SW. One feed with all updates in it. It's not as bad as it seems.

Yeah, I like the idea of having all your subscribed interests show up as unread. That way, you won't miss things that got buried. Think of how quick WC posts get put up on SW. You are bound to miss some. But if each unread one shows in an alert box, you see everything and can comment on all of them!!!! Mwa ha ha!
