Foxconn snaps up Belkin—including Linksys, Wemo brands—for $866 million

Foxconn, the famed Taiwan-based manufacturer behind approximately 40 percent of all consumer electronics (including the iPhone), has agreed to purchase Belkin for $866 million in cash.
"FIT is excited to acquire Belkin and its capabilities in the premium consumer products space," said Sidney Lu, CEO of Foxconn Interconnect Technology (FIT), in a statement released late Monday evening. "Integrating Belkin’s best-in-class capabilities and solutions into FIT, we expect to enrich our portfolio of premium consumer products and accelerate our penetration into the smart home."

Seems like a weird purchase. But it was cheap, I guess.

Yeah, something fishy about that statement.

Not really. It’s consumer products and they are actually well-made hence premium products.

What well made Belkin products are out there? As consumer products go, they seem to be pretty low end. Not horrible, but low end. Like they were Linksys' discount line for a while.

Still not buying one... well, until something drastic changes. They'll remain on the NOPE list.
In my experience they have always had cheap (as in junk) reputation.

Yeah, good power strips I guess, but junk gear for IT.

Of course, and consumer gear is not IT gear.

Very true. But Belkin has LInksys which has many times tried to claim to be IT gear.

I had a Belkin Home Router years ago. It was solid. Nothing fancy but solid. A basic router. Sometimes that is all you need.

@penguinwrangler Yes mine had a nice led screen on front with different views for bandwidth, wifi clients, time, etc. But it never got updates.
