Trying to write a powershell script that will pull the username and computer name of whoever plugs in the USB drive and email it to us, from the USB drive. Username is easy
whoami
. Emailing it is easy. Computer name, not so much, so far. Then I have to try to write the batch script that I hope will run when they plug in the USB drive to run the powershell script.hostname

Need to make some coffee.
Start by planting a seed, waiting 15 years, harvest and then cook the beans, and then grind the beans to make the coffee.

Thank you. That was too easy.

Ha! Reminds me of a joke someone made in Everquest once.

Player 2: Well, at the Character Select screen . . . -

You could also do
$env:Username
and$env:ComputerName
. I believe thatwhoami
andhostname
are aliases for those. -

Seemed to go well. Was supposed to be 30 minute face to face, but ended up 1h 30min... so, I take that as a good sign. We'll see. Not that length is anything to go by of course. Thanks for asking

Already have had 4 people call "why can't this stuff stay there forever?"
....
Because we said so.

This should be fun, dumping ~60GB of things that are old.

Read/received receipts are also a wonderful thing.
Because people can't say "I never got that"

Had a phone interview the other week with an Infrastructure Lead that run a similar amount of time and didn't get taken forward on that role... so who knows. The Lead said 'You've not used x software, and I won't have time to show it to you.' - fair do's, even though I disagree. I guess he didn't take in to account that i've not needed somebody to show me anything so far and have used my own willpower to learn what I need to know - but hey, if that is his way of thinking I wouldn't want to work with him anyway...
(I still sound bitter on that one, which is fair - he could have saved me over an hour and some battery life on my phone if he ended the phone interview at that point).

Thanks dude. Yeah, totally agree. Not the right place to work if a manager has no time to sit with a sub - not that it would really be needed IMO anyway.
Shame though, until he said that after the long call is seemed to go well and said 'loved the in depth conversation about storage and virtualisation, and you have great stuff that would be useful..... BUT..' lol.If one piece of software is a problem, then fine. But gosh, pretty crappy outlook.
It was something like System Centre DPM. Which is their backup tool... i've not used it because I just go Veeam lol
