What Are You Doing Right Now

This guy says that Windows 2016 is shipping without a GUI. Um... I think we'd have heard about this, don't you think?

Well you can get server 2016 without a gui, but it isn't the only option.
-
@scottalanmiller yep the OP probably got Server 2016 Core or installed as Core since it is the default install type. Other than that they can convert it to GUI but it will be of no more help

He claims there is no GUI option. I don't think that they even offer such a thing (by license.)

Woke up because the break flipped and my CPAP started suffocating me. Good morning Mangoes.
Maybe you need a small UPS for your CPAP machine? But then you go back to the whole weight/size issue when traveling?

Yeah, that's not possible unfortunately.

2lbs or 8lbs, there are light ones and not very bulky. Might be worth the investment, of well, you know, your life.
They dont draw a lot of power so might be safe to put the adapters on it, or find an international one. Looks like there might be options for you.

I think he's stuck with the scenario where if you install core, you can't install the GUI later. But if you install the GUI, you can uninstall it and have a core server. That weird training I had made sure to mention this.

At least they told you something useful, lol.

His claim, though, is that there is no GUI install option at all.
-
@scottalanmiller There is not, see below:

"NoteUnlike some previous releases of Windows Server, you cannot convert between Server Core and Server with Desktop Experience after installation. If you install Server Core and later decide to use Server with Desktop Experience, you should do a fresh installation."

But we are talking about DURING installation, not after. His claim is that there was never an option for it.

@scottalanmiller oh yeah, the person probably forgot to install it with the correct version and installed core.

That's what I was thinking. But the issue is that he's claiming that it doesn't exist and escalated that to the point of claiming that it no longer exists.
-
@scottalanmiller I am going to test shortly.

Maybe the VL portal has a core only ISO for those who want a smaller installer. I'm gonna check mine to see...
All I see are standard, essentials, Hyper-V, and storage versions, nothing specified about core/GUI.
-
@scottalanmiller I just tried and it installed in 5 minutes without any problems and I am on the Desktop Experience screen

Out at the playground with the kids.

Running both smokers - my brother and father - along with their wives are in for a visit. We are having a nice family dinner with them and my In-Laws... all total there will be eleven people here... so Pork loin in smoker one, and block cheese in the other.
Means I'm also about out of chips...
