Installing IOS 9 now on my Ipad Air and 6plus.
-
@DataRecoveryGuru Just a local computer shop that I've used in the past. We haven't decided if we want to ship it out to a clean room company for a further attempt.
-
'Over slept by about 45 minutes' ... now listening to NPR and fighting dozing off and doing a face plant in my cereal.
Skimmed over the iOS9 details,.. seems like some cool options. will kick it off in a minute.

So far no issues with IOS 9. I like the new MAPS options. The trip from here in WNY to Austin should be a good test on that.

Did they add something to let you change an in progress route to add a gas stop or something yet? That is a function of Maps that I currently detest. Say I decide I need gas and I search a station 20 miles down the road. As soon as I exit, it start rerouting continuously.
-
I haven't used it yet just shows more options for food, and gas etc. We will see how it works.

Not too much different so far. Not sure if I like the new News app, it seems okay but doesn't curate like I had hoped and doesn't seem to offer the major news outlets that I like.
The new font is whatever. Not bad, but did it need to be changed?

It should be even easier than that - if the system sees that you've been following a course for a while, and suddenly make an unexpected turn, it should have either some sort of pause, but even better would be options like Gas? Food? RestRoom? Reroute? you choose the button that matches what you need/want. It gives them more information about you - heck Google maps could start knowing what kind of mileage you get. I'm sure that could be useful to both you and them. I could see it in the future where Google Maps might start providing a warning - "the upcoming gas station is the last one for 30 miles." etc. That would have been awesome when I almost ran out of gas on a 50 mile stretch of interstate that ran through a natural preserve that didn't have any gas stations, almost didn't make it.

Back in the days of using a stand alone GPS (a Garmin NΓΌvi specifically), one nice feature was being able to add a point in the middle of an existing route on the fly. I have always been surprised that neither Google or Apple added this type of feature out of the box.
-
I agree, after all this time, technology, use and investment there does not seem to be what I would think is pretty basic GPS functionality in the mainline mapping apps. Apple and Google have sold so many more of these devices and have so much more money than Garmen, Magellan and other GPS makers yet those old GPS units often worked so much better. I'm unclear why Apple and Google are so bad at it (and why Google makes Waze which is so bad as to actually be worse than just using Apple Maps!)
-
Another nice feature that the Garmin stuff had was the ability to hit it and tell it to reroute due to construction. I could really use this on my current commute from Chicago to St. Louis, because the exit I would normally take towards my destination is closed. I always have to drive past it before Maps then reroutes.
-
How about the ability to map out a course online, then just have it sync to your phone..
I Agree, so many possibilities, yet there has been little to no real improvement in years.
Back when Waze was self owned, it seems kinda interesting, and I even used it, and edited maps myself by driving in parts of town that it wasn't aware of. But I'm not sure how useful that is anymore. Google does a fairly good job of getting newer stuff into their maps faster these days.
The best part of Waze was the traffic notices, but doesn't Google have that now? But I'm guessing Google isn't using their traffic knowledge to help route you better, which would be an awesome altruistic feature that Google could provide, possibly helping municipalities a bit.
-
What's amazing is that they never got "back up to" where many GPS units were by the time that they hit the mainstream.
-
Just upgraded to iOS 9 and had it map me home. No way to add a point to a route.

I'm battling a headache as I am telling people how things need to be scheduled, yet our scheduling department gets it all confused...
GAH Timezones and participants!

My dad is planning to see the new Disney Wars movies and has never seen Episodes 1-3. So he just watched one and two. And he was like "these aren't very good, are they!"
