How to set up Unifi Controller For Unrouted Private Network?

Weird follow up questions,
What's the reason to put the AP as a Static? is it cause I dont have a DHCP server ?
Connecting will be the same right? find the SSID and Connect via a password? -
Jared's instructions can only be followed if the devices already have a DHCP address so they can talk to the controller.
So, if you're at your home office and you're setting these up, you could, as a last step, change their IPs as Jared pointed out. But once you're at the remote location, you'd have to put the controller and the devices on the DHCP enabled network, have the UAPs check-in, then update them, and move them.
What I don't know - would Will then have to SSH into the UAPs to set the IP for the controller on the private network?
Of course now Jared will say - WTF? you're making this way to hard.

from a simple connectivity stand point - that is correct. Assuming the UAPs are already configured, once you join their WiFi network, they should just pass the traffic back to the wired network, no different than a dumb switch (at least I assume they will do that - it is possible that they might not simply act as a dumb switch). BUT you wouldn't be able to manage the UAPs, the UAPs would have no way themselves of talking to the controller - unless they use a broadcast protocol, but I'm pretty sure they don't.

Yes or now would have worked just fine,

Those things aren't related. I'm specifically talking about the UAPs having their own broadcast protocol that they could use - something other than TCP/IP to talk to the controller - again, this seems unlikely.
As for Aloha, I'm guessing it uses TCP broadcasts, and those should work fine, if they work on other APs they will work here.

Those things aren't related. I'm specifically talking about the UAPs having their own broadcast protocol that they could use - something other than TCP/IP to talk to the controller - again, this seems unlikely.

sadly - you really can't learn this in a reasonable time hands one. You need to either take a class so they really force/focus you on it - or read the book. Once you have a better understanding, much of this will be significantly easier.

I realized it because it wouldn't save.
So i reset it to default and say i was missing /24 - which Im not exactly sure what that is for. But as Dash Said Above- I need to read the book I have and there's not much I can learn by doing (how I learn) when it comes to this. -

Right. This is basically just math. Math requires sitting down and learning. Then it's useful. But until you know it, you learn nothing from just trying to use it.

/24 is the subnet mask.

So a NETWORK is a grouping of resources. It's a list of addresses that work together. To know what network you are on, you have to know what those addresses are. So a network is defined as a range of addresses. A network address, like...
192.168.0.0/24
Tell you the first number of the network (192.168.0.0) and the size of the network (/24) which, when taken together, tells you every possible address on the network, because they have to be consecutive.
That's what the subnet number is for.
