@WrCombs let me know if you need a demo of Jamf.... I have contacts and have sold it many times... I also recommend Block64 as an alternative (depending on what you need)
Checked for Drivers to install and installed 2 tool kits and a seagate driver that matches the model number. still no luck. It's USB only so I can plug it into a different computer as the hard drive to see if it boots up. I'm not sure what else to do.
huh drivers for a drive?
I'm guessing you could have a similar issue to connecting a Tivo drive to a windows machine - Tivo uses a file system that windows can't read.
Booting from Linux Live or attaching to Linux based OS provided additional file system support and instructions on how to access/copy, etc.
@WrCombs You cannot hide your SSIDs on Eero. You also have a limit of your Main SSID and Guest Network. It is geared for Home and really small environments.
Why Eero over Ubiquiti? Business versus consumer. Does the pro version have APs with wired connections?
Prob because management is much easier. I ditched my APs and edgerouter for a single Amplifi which I can update and control from my phone. My mom has a Deco setup and it works very similarly and is great as well.
Easier if you do it yourself. But if you have a support company, I think the Unifi is easier. The Eeros always made for a lot of extra work when we had to deal with them.
At a former job, we had an Amplifi system that caused ~8 hours of un-needed billable time. If it would have been a UniFi system, we could have fixed it without the site visits.
You can grant remote access to Amplifi. Aftyer I set it up at my mom's, with her credentials, I then added myself as a remote admin.
Yeah - this is straight up spying - in some states this would be illegal!
Which? Because most states I know the details of, this is 100% employer right.
Often if disclosed, but yes. Because it is the employer's system, after the point of sending. There's no assumption of privacy. It's not like cracking someone's encryption.
It does seem kinda weird that either a) they supply you with one or b) they reimburse you for providing one of your own.
Though perhaps we don't have all the information.
I'm not following
do they
a) pay for a headset OR
b) reimburse you for one you buy yourself?
Using a headset is basically a requirement for a softphone (and since you're now work from home support - I fully expect you'll spend the better part of your day on the phone - so you'll want a headset for that so really that should be a business expense).
ah, they bought it and it'll be here tomorrow.
It looks pretty decent to me. The Evolve2 40 has a more advanced mic though with more suppression of unwanted noise and the Engage 50 is better and much lighter. But it's hard to beat free 🙂
Update - got windows 11 install USB - going to try to use the installer to replace the files that are corrupt - though i fear the PC can't actually install Windows11.
edit running system scan through installer cmd now..
The short answer is you would get the Router to route between the two VLANS, and fix it so that only the Payment devices have access to the internet.
if this was an on prem system, that would world. but this is a cloud system so both need access to the internet..
Actually that makes it make more sense. It's minimal value, but that doesn't mean zero. It will improve security and simplify audits if they are both SaaS connected devices like that. Not a big deal, but not bad, either.
So how would you make that work? just using firewall rules, to let the 2 talk to pull transaction information?
If they talk only to the hosted apps, the intercommunications should be on the server, not the client. Is that not correct?
If you need devices on two different LANs (vLANs are just LANs without physical separation) then communications between them is always through a router, and routers are firewalls. So first you have to build a route, then block traffic, then allow the traffic that you want.
in a "normal" IT system, that would be the case, as I'm sure you know.
POS however, the Pin pads talk directly to the Register to pull that transaction data to the Pin Pad - otherwise the pin pad wont know how much to charge the credit card -
Then you need to connect the two VLANs, effectively defeating the purpose. It's not entirely defeated, it is still a secondary firewall but only replicating the vastly more important local firewall.
ROFMAO - like the terminals have firewalls - HAHAHAHAHAHA
on this particular system (which I am the Admin for) Windows firewalls are required to stay on - for all 3 options no matter what.
In the Network Adapter options, disable anything that says power managment.
There's a couple of power management options on the NIC, but IIRC there's some bus-related power management options in the power-profiles. I've seen the NIC-related options take an interface off-line, but where you're saying that it's disappearing completely, I'd be more inclined to look at PCI or chipset drivers and settings.
Also remember you only need to hit about 60-70% of the job description. And you can get a much better job after only about 6 months at a new job. Keep track of your accomplishments and continuously learn and improve.
Yeah. I have windows 10 on my home pc with auto updates and it only asks me if I want to upgrade. It never forces me or does it without my consent.
But if you do not give consent, it will update without your consent anyway (after some time) 🙂
You just can't stop updates on Windows 10, only delay it for some time.
I can view all the files from the tgz file after extracting to tar files. but can't actually open or read the files inside of there.. The issue with this is when they send me logs, the logs are also in TGZ files..
I figured it out -
I have to open the archive in 7zip -after extracting, then use notepad++ to open the file, and it is readable in English to me.
Looks like going on site is still required because I have no idea if IIS is already installed - my guess is it isn't.
oh well, good information to have if I ever need it in the future.
Yeah, if you're going on site - skip all this and just put on VNC.
my thoughts exactly, But I figured if there was a way to do this without having to go on site, it would make it so much easier.
guess I can mark this as solved.
