@JaredBusch Once you stop requiring companies deliver more than they are capable of or willing to, you'll find you aren't so unhappy.
What you're doing is no different than getting mad because the six passenger car you fancy won't seat 7 people.
Why are you out to get Skyetel anyway? First you were pissed they don't publish their partner rates, now you're pissed they need a cell phone to satisfy the business model they are currently operating with. If you don't like the way they operate, choose another provider. You live in a capitalist society...... You have options. And if you don't, build your own option; call it Buschtel.

Why not a credit card like all the real businesses?

Your in North America (Foreign cell phone numbers wont work)
You are actually a real human being (because you have to put it in)
You are not planning on committing fraud.DING DING DING
Given how much VOIP fraud and spam is happening, telco's need to be able to have something that traces back to a person the FBI can lock up.
This (combined with shaken+Stir being deployed) is critical to saving the PSTN. -

I have to give all my personal information for a credit card. Even more for a bank debit card. So you're telling me there's no way to distinguish between a gift card and an actual credit/debit card?
That was rhetorical, I know there is because real companies I sign up to have in the past!
