I mean sure, it's nearly double in price from the baseline, but outside of that, it's not seemingly horrible price.

Yes, it is about the comparative cost to its other versions.
Is memory that expensive? Why offer versions? Could a standard 4GB only release have been lower cost (but higher than $35) due to less complexity, and more purchasing power?Chicago Electronic Distributors lists the units for:

- 4GB = $55 (57.14% price jump for quadruple the RAM)

I look forward to getting one fo these and seeing if it can now run Netflix/Crunchyroll better. The Pi3 could not do it well.

Thin client yes, desktop computer no.
The Asus tinkerboard already had 4 cores @ 1.8Ghz, 2GB RAM and real gigabit ethernet. It is about twice the speed of the Raspberry Pi 3B. Still not fast enough for general desktop use IMHO.
Even if the Pi 4 is as fast as the tinkerboard or perhaps even a bit faster, it still will come up short I think. I don't know what it is lacking but I fear that it has to do with storage speed. If you could hook up an SATA ssd or something that can do 500MB/s without going over USB these ARM boards could finally reach up to the speed of a lower end Intel cpu's.

@scottalanmiller These are intended for Pi-hole use, so the extra horsepower isn't needed.... just craptacular timing ( compounded by the rpi3's sticker price dropping at the vendor :disappointed_face: )
