Copperhead OS - A Security and Privacy Focused Android OS

I have a Nexus 6P so I have one of the few elgible phones. A few hours ago I wiped my stock OS and installed Copperhead OS. Right now, I am still trying to get everything configured. It will be interesting avoiding Google all together on an Android device.
I found this article that intrigued me and challenged me to try ditching Google as well. As google is recording every small detail of your daily habits.

What in the hell was the point of that guy even trying that if everything he does is in G-Suite then what’s the fucking point.
I get the concept of running a Google-less Android. But not if you do everything in Gmail and calendar, etc.

I think most android users buy in the Google ecosystem. You almost have to do it. Alot of my apps broke since they require play services so I am having to find alternatives.

Eh, let them. This makes my life better, in fact I'd offer them more data on me if I could.

These are the only supported devices.

Yes because they receive the most frequent security updates. I got a security update today. The last update to the OS was December 5th, so the appear to happen fairly often.

Makes sense. I'm lucky to get an update once a year. I had to manually pull down the last one.

I've got a Pixel XL (from last year) and the updates seem to come around the first or second week of the month for me. Just had 8.1 drop for me a few days ago.

It's been 3 days without google services on my android device. I was able to find decent alternatives for most functions. Although, I am definitely missing Google Maps. The open source alternatives suck in comparison. The software is good, but they depend on community populated maps which are MOSTLY incomplete. Forget trying to navigate to an address or find a local restaurant. Well sometimes you can find a local restaurant, but there is no contact or address info so you have to use a search engine as well.

I am still using on a daily basis and could not be happier. I had about a month of withdrawals eliminating Google from my personal life, but now I couldnt be more thankful I wen through this exercise.
I thought it would probably be temporary, but now I could never see myself going back.
DuckDuckGo is a much better search engine anyway, without all the advertising bullshit.

Is Java at all included in this OS? If so you're boned.

It has to, to do what it does. It's Android and Android is built on Java.

Sure, but not as bad as running Google services and getting targeted ads all the time. If you want to be 100% safe, you have to unplug completely.
