Need suggestions for IP desk phone that works with wifi
-
I know I can get a WiFi extender device or something to get me a wired to go to a desk phone. But that is clunky.
I have a client with a completely wireless office that wants some desk phones now.
Any recommendations? he Yealink T46G has USB but that is only for Bluetooth.

Experience has taught me that VOIP desk phones over wifi is too jittery. Have you had differing results?
-
They can work, the APs, protocols and density in play do a lot. If you add TLS or SSH you can minimize jitter as long as you have low enough latency to buffer it.
I use softphones over wifi regularly and when the WAN Is good, they are normally good. It's almost always the WAN, not the wifi, that causes issues. But I rarely have many users on my wifi, so the phone gets nearly all of the bandwidth.

I used Grandstream GXV3240 and Cisco SPA525G2. It was ok, but not really great. It all depends on quality of wireless network. Interference can be problem. Had better results with DECT phones (base unit on IP)

I do skype over WiFi all the time - i wouldn't expect VOIP to be any worse.
-
Why do WiFi phones instead of DECT phones?

Umm, because I said the office is 100% wireless?
How the hell would I connect a desk phone with DECT?
-
So I'm assuming you're using Windows. Does it have the ability to bridge your wireless and ethernet? I know I can on nix machines, just never tried with Windows.
-
Windows can, it is called internet connection sharing (ICS). Has existed forever. Not relevant.
100% wireless office. No ethernet plugs anywhere. Not on a computer. None. Zero.

Ah I misunderstood. I thought you meant only wireless as in, just had wireless connection to the network. I didn't realize you meant the systems didn't have ethernet either.

Yes, all laptops without ethernet.

Best choice I am seeing is this dongle and then use standard phone.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00843P2M6/Need to see how much power the Yealink T46G offers on the USB port.
-
well damnit. the T46G datasheet says it does wifi now.
grr hours wasted if this is true.
yup. they sell a dongle Yealink WF40

Wasted? Not completely as you found other options and possible solutions...

Wasted because I could have had a quote to the client today.

I didn't mean to derail the thread with my question. Sorry about that.

I have not used a deskphone on wifi. I have used apps on wifi all the time though without a problem.
-
I use VOIP on mobile data or wifi routinely. No issues.

The assumption is that you have Wireless Access Points. If you have those, then you have a switch. If you're lucky, there is an open port for the DECT and you can plug the DECT into that port. It might require you to run a new cable to the area you want to support the DECT.
It was only an option. Take it or leave it.
Oh, and looks like you've already found your Wifi module for the phone so it doesn't matter at this point anyway.
