@Eatsshootsandleaves said in Setting up a MS 2019 PKI for secure Wifi access - will this break anything in domain??: Newbie to Certificate Services and while everything in our domain fine I need to refresh our Wifi setup to be more secure and using certs with EAP-TLS seems to be the best way to go. Introducing a PKI into our domain is there any chance this may break existing functionality - I only want this PKI for Wifi nothing else. Thanks guys No, you can bring up a PKI such as AD CS without any impact to existing infrastructure. Once you distribute certificates, and require them for WiFi connection as in your example, only then will it have an obvious impact. Of course there are many variables at play, but generally speaking, without any major or crazy numbers in any aspect, it won't mess with anything simply by creating a PKI. Just make sure to use proper planning in every aspect. It's a PITA to revoke, remove, and redistribute certs because you didn't plan for something and need to make a change.

@CCWTech I'll wait for it to become "stable". I'm aware this term is a very loose one when it comes to firmware or updates from ubiquiti. 4.3.20 downgrade and disabling everything I could find in relation to Automatic updates was my solution.

@mary said in Wireless Network Technologies - CompTIA Network+ N10-007 Prof. Messer: Do the frequencies used self modulate within the router? What I'm wondering is if when setting up a dsl connection if it automatically defaults to a specific frequency or is it constantly switching. DSL is the wired bit. Wifi is from the access point. And this will depend on the protocol chosen. 802.11 b for example requires thebfrequency be set.

@Osvaldo said in Wireless Network Technologies - CompTIA A+ 220-1001 Prof Messer: I wonder if there is a tool for radio hacking zigbee? Many of the devices that use the protocol are never updated, therefor quite a large target for hacking. The radio protocol itself I doubt is much use to "hack" (Any cheap software defined radio will be able to imitate a Zigbee device.)

This could be helpful in determination of the Hardware and OS everything else works fine except the wifi for some reason just kicks off to the point the card itself is not recognized even with drivers re loaded , until you physically unplug and plug back in.

@Mike-Davis said in daisy chain Ubiquiti AC Pros?: @DustinB3403 said in daisy chain Ubiquiti AC Pros?: This is why you don't use pre-made cables. What does it cost to have fiber terminated? $150/hr? Since this is in the mountains, I'm guessing the nearest city is 1.5 hours away, so drive time on top of that. I'm just guessing at the labor since I haven't ever had it quoted. Right, so if oyu are confident that premade will pull in quantiy, then by all means go with it. The good thing about fiber, is that it doesn't matter if you coil up the left over.

@PhlipElder said in Tracking People in Their Homes with WiFi Signals: 10-4. Radio Imaging sorta. The idea has been around for a long time? I seem to remember movies having this type of thing happening? It's a bit like X-Ray. It's all just non-visible light, but with different sources, bounce patterns, and penetration. Wifi is interesting because it is so common and "bright". There is just so much of it, everywhere.

I've always used WiFi Analyizer on a phone/tablet if I needed to survey a location. That said, a thread on linuxquestions.com led me to: https://alternativeto.net/software/inssider/?platform=linux#. Looks like some options at least, don't really know if they're decent.

What WPA2 security mode are you using? Make sure it is AES not TKIP. Also a known-good USB wireless adapter is handy to keep around for times like this.

@kelly said in New Toys!: @dashrender said in New Toys!: @kelly said in New Toys!: At a previous job we rolled out Ubiquiti APs on one site since they were so inexpensive just as test to see if we could move to a controller based system. After the second AP failed of the three we purchased we went with a Ruckus system despite the increased cost. We chose to spend a bit more for apparent reliability. That said, for my current job I've chosen to do a test deployment of UBNT hardware. Weird - where did you buy them from? Failures do happen, but 2 out of 3 failing.. that's pretty bad. I deployed UAPs (22 and no failures) and it has worked flawlessly for me for 8 months so far. This was 2012-2013 time frame, so given the average experience I'm not knocking them off the list permanently. They were off of Amazon. From UBNT iirc. The ERL in 2012/2013 was iffy. But not the basic UAP. interesting experience.

@Mike-Davis said in ubiquiti indoor wifi receiver, any?: If it was just printers I wouldn't think twice about just using some APs in bridged mode. For PCs I would make sure their (the users) expectations are set correctly and make sure you don't have a some database application that is real sensitive to latency running on the link. As cheap as it is to try, I would try it for one set up and then do the rest if it meets their expectations. Depending on the units, you can get really good latency on wireless links. but you need good ones. Some people argue that it beats wired. it doesn't, but it's good enough that people start to imagine that it does.

@NerdyDad said in WiFi range extender requires wifi...: Cabling: One aspect of home networking that is far too often overlooking is implementing a quality cabling plant inside the home. This requires far more effort than other home networking projects and falls more into the electrician space rather than the IT professional space but is also one of the most important pieces from the home owner perspective and end user perspective rather than the IT pro perspective. A good, well installed cabling plant will make a home more attractive to buyers and make the value a powerful home network even better. http://www.smbitjournal.com/2014/05/doing-it-at-home-enterprise-networking/ What an excellent reference

Anything using a specific chipset. Not sure if anything outside of phones uses that one.

We do Yealink 48G with WF40 module all the time, prior to that we used Snom wifi 5+ years ago, which was maybe the only option then. Works great, no issues above wired networks if you have a decent wifi network deployed (UBNT, Ruckus, etc)
