Upstate NY has had a rash of Confederate flags as well... Pretty much exactly the same configuration, stuck on a truck with way-to-big tires and CB Radio antennas.

Why would scientists measure how many homes Santa Claus has to visit rather than mathematicians?

Now that you mention that, that IS a strange thing to have pointed out. Would they have pointed out the profession of people calculating that if it wasn't scientists? What if it had been figured out by musicians or pot heads? It isn't like it takes any special knowledge of skill to take a population and divide it by the amount of time that Santa has to do the deliveries. It could have easily said "as calculated by elementary schools kids learning how to divide."
