Turn off roaming profiles, and use folder redirection (and offline files if needed). Roaming profiles always have issues.

Folder redirection has its own issues. It will really be situational. I do generally go with folder redirection first too though.

You can use both in this case, Roaming and folder redirection.

And then the poor guy will have to deal with 2 systems playing hell.

I didn't seem to have that issue when using both. The biggest issue I see/run into are huge amounts of data on the desktop. Since it wants to sync that data local even on redirected folders, it's a network drain.

I woudl recommend renaming the User's profile folder on all computers that they use. Then on Start -> Run -> SystemPropertiesAdvanced go in and delete the user profiles under the "User Profiles" settings area... and then have them do a fresh login.

Yes, it will take a while, and you'll likely need to reconfigure Outlook and other apps... but that should fix thde problem.

Is the user still having a problem? I thought it caused by the 30 GB of files on their desktop - which wouldn't be solved by deleting the profile.

I've never had problems with users with big profiles hosing the system... (maybe I'm just fortunate)

I'm sure they're not hosed.. just take forever when logging in the first time they do so to a new computer.

and how big are you talking? 2-3 gigs? He said this user had 30+ GB on their desktop.

I've only seen one top 30 gigs...I think it was 50 gigs... This guy had 20 years worth of emails and documents...It took his computer almost 2 days to log in (fortunately, we had it in the IT shop for that, lol) on a 100 meg network. Talk about slow... We upgraded to 1gig later that year.

The average profile size at that place was ~10 to 15 GB.

@Dashrender No... This guy was hung on Netscape Communicator (this was long after Netscape shutdown too... ugh. He did have a few corrupted messages, but very very few considering the number and size of his emails. (At least 20GB of his was emails).

It just took him forever to get logged in to a new computer the first time.

It was pretty big, once upon a time. A long, long time ago.
