The preview isn't usually open to as many people like it is for Windows 10 though.

What part of this is confusing? I have no idea how you are struggling with this sentence.

It simply says that the Windows 10's preview is open to more people than previews are usually open to.

That wording made sense. His just isn't registering with me.

So how does a site get an SSL without knowing? "CT’s intent is to prevent CAs from issuing public key certificates for a domain without the domain owner’s knowledge." I assume that means if the site is hacked.

No, it does not mean that it has been hacked. This is really easy to do. I'm not sure at what stage you think that there is a verification for this currently but generally there is nothing.

But it has to be used at the domain it's issued for or else it will throw a mismatch error.. Unless it's a whild card cert..

That's a completely different piece of security. If you hijack DNS you completely bypass it.

Do you need it to ring a bell or to page folks?

The speaker you list will do the trick, but FreePBX can do it with current equipment. It's all about boosting the ring/tip voltage

    Another option:

    http://www.algosolutions.com/products/Audible-and-Visual-Alerting/8180-sip-audio-alerter.html

Thanks @PSX_Defector...that is a little cheaper but since they are buying a new business class PC and looking for a new AIO printer, they're looking for something less expensive. They might just add a phone to the shop.

If as Scott mentions that 3rd parties get the usernames and passwords - that's even worse than this breach!

Yes, far worse. Anyone can have an accident. Sharing usernames and passwords is a breach of ethics, not security. I'm positive Dropbox is doing no such thing.

So what was the resolution on this one? I'm sure others would like to know if it was the SIP provider, the Ubiquiti device, or something else entirely.

Yes, Because redirection break sometimes.. also Some users like old habits
I actually never redirect the desktop. and just usually just make the root and the documents redirect 1 in the same. .

@thecreativeone91 I can't say that I've noticed an issue with redirection failing, at least not enough that I worry about giving them a drive letter to access the files directly. But I'll definitely agree with the old habits - but sometimes those habits just need to change - for example, my use of Home Folders. 🙂

Yeah, it is certain types. RDP is limited to one. SMB is limited to 10 or 20.

What about block-level deduplication? I guess that doesn't apply to the Windows model.

The block level data is on a Drobo, so that is not an option in this case. If it were NetApp or something like that, it might be a different story.

Did you try disabling it then re-enabling it?

    @scottalanmiller said:

Did you turn it off and back on again? 😉

The problem with that though is that it fails on multiple services. Both Outlook web app and IMAP (ManageEngine ServiceDesk). So this to me indicates a higher level problem as they can individually disabled..

  • Strategic vs. Tactical - How much of Each Do You Do?

I see strategy as more 'what are your goals?' and tactics as 'how will you achieve those goals?'.

So strategy might be "we need to collaborate more" and as a result tactical might be 'we need to implement Sharepoint".

I was recently asked to give a presentation to our CEO on what our "IT Strategy" is. I basically refused on the grounds that IT Strategy is really just a response to "Company Strategy" and I wasn't made party to what our company strategy is. I was kind of "you tell me what the company strategy is, or what the business plan is, and I'll tell you how we can use IT to achieve it".

Too often I think IT departments work in isolation to the general business plan. They're off implementing Exchange, or ERP, or Sharepoint without asking 'how does this help meet the short to medium term goals of the company", or "how will this make the company more profitable". So they implement technology based on how the company is currently setup, blind to the fact that companies are dynamic things - they're constantly changing, expanding, retracting, moving into new markets, moving out of old markets. Without the vision, IT is always playing catchup to what the company is trying achieve tomorrow.

So I'd say I leave strategy to the CEO, and I only do tactics. As managers we know what our company looks like today, and we know what are weaknesses and strengths are today, but we have no idea what our company will look like in five years time. Only the CEO has (or should have) that vision of how he sees the company developing.

But what strategy I do do, I probably do it lying in bed at 3am unable to sleep. That's when most of my long term planning takes place, unfortunately. That's when my "vision" seems to be at its most clear.

PRTG is good. It can be made overly complex.

I'm using basic Spiceworks scans. With netwrix disk space monitoring running every night.

Haven't really considered network monitoring. I might put that down for consideration next year.

Is Netwrix pretty good? Do you use it for any file server auditing or anything else?

Well, we're just using the disk space monitor and probably a really old version too. It's not really that helpful as I get better information out of Spiceworks.

I've turned it off to see what happens, and will try as you have mentioned the report option.

There has always been SPAM filtering. It is reporting the SPAM to Microsoft to review that appears to be brand new.

@JaredBusch Thanks for the info, that helped.

I am guessing it really doesn't matter (custom domain vs no-ip domain) as long as they can connect to the cameras.

Going to get them setup asap.

The good thing about using your own domain record is if you move it somehow you can keep the same url for end users and they won't notice any changes.
