Scott, it's a standard VPS server with WHM/cPanel that I use to host my client's websites.

A standard VPS you would have SSH access to and you can do anything that you want. I've never see a VPS that didn't act like a VPS. In fact, if you don't have that access, I'm not sure it technically even qualifies as a VPS. It's just a non-shared web hosting VM.

Of course I have SSH access. Doesn't mean I remember how to access it or use it. However now I have something to work with!

I thought that the whole post was about lacking SSH access and needing to do this without it 🙂

Nope...wanted people to know although it was a linux box, it was used only for webhosting using the WHM/cPanel software. Sorry for the confusion.

I remember having to use Putty to access the mysql years ago for a tweak in vBulletin and to do manual backups.

Then hopefully you just need to remember your login 🙂

Is cPanel handling your OS updates?

The OS updates have to be done outside of WHM...which is why my WHM/cPanel updates are not up to date. Moving versus updates gets me a newer hardware!

I reinstalled my backup and will worry about the upgrade after I have moved to an updated WHM/cPanel account at A Small Orange.

    • mysql issue

I was upgrading my WHMCS billing software and ran into this errror:

SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 1615 Prepared statement needs to be re-prepared (SQL: select distinct setting, value from tblconfiguration)

According to the Billing software support, I need to increase the value of table_definition_cache in the server MySQL configuration.

I use WHM/cPanel and really don't know where to start. My googling hasn't helped much either.

    • Google Voice

Has anyone used Google Voice for their business. I want to get personal calls on my cell phone and also use Google Voice on my cell (different number) for business clients. Would this work?

    • RE: What Are You Doing Right Now

Working with Windows 10 Task View and feeling disappointed.

At a minimum I expected to be able to name the desktops and change their backgrounds.

I also ran into an issue where a tab opened in the wrong desktop.

      @Dashrender

As an one man shop I decided to use my cell as our business phone when I opened shop in 2003. The number is on all of our business info as well as online.

    • RE: Web based call blocker for mobile devices

Off the top of my head the majority of the phone calls I get weekly are from:

      • Credit card system sales people
      • Health insurance sales people
      • SEO sales people
      • Business loans availability sales people
      • Buy ads for xxx event sales people
      • Outsource companies wanting us to do handle our web design, etc sales people
      • Mobile app companies wanting us to use their services sales people
      • Local business listings companies wanting to sell their services sales people
      • Vendors and Financing sales people which are already in my Contact list, so I just let those go to VM

    • RE: Web based call blocker for mobile devices

This is total crap (Mr number)...no way to import or backup. I actually like the app I was using...but without a backup/restore or the ability to port from phone to phone....useless in the long run.

@scottalanmiller, good to know for my wife.

Does anyone know if the Galaxy Auto Reject list is transferable between phones?

    • Web based call blocker for mobile devices

I finally moved from my Galaxy S3 to a Note 4. The biggest issue is that my Call Blocking app from NQMobile doesn't have any way to backup 2 years worth of blocked numbers.

From my search on the web I haven't come across a Call Blocking app that is web based or has an export/import feature to aid in moving to a new phone.

      Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have been able to get most of my clients off of Java, but not installing Flash causes too many tickets, mostly from the client installing from rogue sources!

I'm sold on the EdgeRouter X for $49 and it looks like I will be purchasing UniFi AP as the $69 price is pretty good.

I might need a cheap 8 port gigbit switch...any ideas?

    • Wireless Router for SOHO

I am looking to replace our very old WGR614v7 router and a USB wireless adapter.

Our phones support ac Wi-Fi, my tablet supports N Wi-Fi. I need to get a new USB wireless adapter anyway and a new router would give me GB finally to my desktops!

I am looking for your suggestions.

      Thanks!
