      @jrc said in Examining unRAID Storage:

      Yes, I could do this with a stand alone linux install, but ain't no one got time for that.

      It HAS to be faster to deploy Linux than unRAID. I mean, it literally seems like an impossible thing to say. And Docket is this...

      dnf install docker

      That's all that there is. Docker is super fast and easy to install.

    • RE: Best way to automate an email sending with macros

      From where does it need to send out? A common way to handle this is with a script, not a macro. Do you need to send from an application (Word, Outlook) or just send an email?

      I don't know the right answer on Windows, on Linux you would just use the mail command. Assume that the message to send is stored in "daily.txt" then you would just send...

      mail -s "Your Daily Mail" [email protected] < daily.txt

      And you could then pop that one line into the crontab to make it send automatically.

      eWeek made a slideshow of screenshots from the upcoming KDE 5 Desktop Environment. Hard to tell from the slideshow but it looks a little more easy to use than KDE 4 and its Plasma was. That was very confusing.

      The OSI model is one of the most important things that I ever learned in IT. Incredibly useful, even for people who are not doing network work very often.

      @Reid-Cooper Good point.

      That is almost a given for an Open Source Desktop environment.

      Almost, but there is a small but very serious competitor too: Calligra Suite

      I know what you mean. Needing to write things down for other people and explaining things often leads us to an answer. It is like we are able to step outside of ourselves and view the issue as a third party to get a fresh perspective. Or we force ourselves to expose something that we knew but were overlooking.

      Crap...I meant changing what they use for software...Not everything has to be made in Acrobat!

      That was what I was saying. MS Word or even LibreOffice will do this better. They probably already have word and are just opening the wrong application because they are given it, so why not?

      I agree. However, the time and hassle to re-train users has to be weighed against the cost of continuing to use whatever. I'd bet it's probably still cheaper to stick to Acrobat.

      Few people know how to use Acrobat and not Word. And retraining is a one time expense, using the wrong software requires constant bad training and extra cost for forever.
