Wooh that just gave me another idea. Of providing an RPO/RTO field that is internal to the department for tracking purposes so a department can track their overall performance and improve / adjust their BIA accordingly.

RTO/RPO: Printers can be down for 3 days as we have others
      Actual recovery time: 20 minutes
Recommendation based on Ticket Average: Reduce RTO/RPO

Now that's a cool feature but likely going to come in down the road a ways.

@fateknollogee said in Just need a basic Switch - to act as a Hub:

@DustinB3403 Why are you calling it a "hub"?

Because there is no switching taking place. The devices simply ask for a dhcp address, and go. All switches are hubs, so a basic unmanaged switch.

      Wtf are you talking about?

My guess - a confusion between switching and routing.

Probably wants a switch, but is calling it a hub, not realizing that a hub is a specific thing that sends all traffic out all ports (layer 1).

In this case, either would probably work, but hubs are limited to 10/100,...

That's true, the GBit standard prohibits hubs.

@QuixoticJeremy Are you bored again? We need a hub that can get around Ethernet standards and pass traffic at gigabit speeds!

Ha, ha ha ha, ha.... pass. lol

The general idea behind the RTO/RPO is once a business has this, they can actively track their performance of being able to resolve problems within their objectives.

Might be overkill and a lot of processing for it. But they'd put in their general objectives in Minutes, Hours, Days etc and then assign a ticket to it that RTO/RPO and proceed to fix the issue.

Which makes perfect sense, but this definitely comes in down the line a bit in terms of priority compared to other functionality. Very useful but ultimately not as important as core helpdesk functionality to begin with.

I think we really just need a coder who has some spare time. Not sure I'd be up to the task myself, but it would be an interesting project. Too bad @QuixoticJeremy is already SUPER busy with something else.

@openit said in What network monitoring s/w you are using ? Can you suggest one for me ?:

      Hello there,

Just wondering to know what Network monitoring software you are using ?

I am looking for one, I just need a simple to setup and simple things to monitor like Up or Not ? with PING sensor or other, which checks the devices for every 5 minutes and alarm somehow. Of course free one 🙂

We have lots of Windows PCs, HP N/W Printers, IP Tel Server, Network devices (AP, router, switches etc.), Servers etc. to be Monitored.

      Thanks !

Hi there, I work on the project sodium and while we don't have absolutely everything that you are looking for we are close and we are still early on and implementing new features/modules very regularly. The project is in early alpha so it does look rough, that being said it does work. We don't have absolutely everything you want yet but a good portion of it is in play already and that which isn't is already on our to do list.

      A. We are free.
      B. We do data collection every 5 minutes and show last check in via collection.
      C. We gather information about what applications are installed, storage is available (and much more) with the intent of implementing alarms eventually.

Note: network devices are on the list but will be down the road a little bit.

If you are interested I'll be happy to talk to you further, just shoot me a message.

@stuartjordan said in Sodium release for helpdesk: related tickets, attachments, changed time management, etc.:

I can see it's defiantly far away from production, but it looks like it has lots of potential and your asking the community for features and ideas, which is great!.

      Just a few questions:

      Notes:

      • once you have reset password it doesn't take you back to login screen after.
      • agent installed fine on Centos 7 although, most information not populated yet

      Questions:

      • how are password's stored / are they securely hashed and salted?
      • We there be an email to add ticket option for users?
      • will closed tickets be removed from main view. (different group view of main list?)
      • delete ticket completely option?
      • what is the main development path, focus?
      • will this only be hosted, and if so what are the future plans of monitization?
      • option to remove account and all related ticket data, machine data?
      • will there be a timed or configurable auto logout?

Just some things that I could think of at this stage?

      Notes:

      • Initial draw is not a full data grab, you will likely hit that in the next data grab job (we did see a bug in this over the past week though so I'll keep an eye on that)

      Questions:

      • Yes passwords are indeed hashed and salted. I won't go into depths in terms of encryption/hashing types etc because of obvious reasons. But yes this has been done.
      • Yes closed tickets will be removed from main view (upon release of filtering so that users can access them again when desired, this will be coming out soon)
-Not sure if you would want a delete ticket completely option for historical tracking purposes. Something I'll discuss with superiors. If we do decide to do it it will be configurable but not a default likely.
-There are many threads/posts out there about plans for monetization/@QuixoticJustin tends to be better in regards to discussing this.
-Accounts are removable, machine removable option was created but due to error on my part did not get moved up to the latest version of the dashboard. I will be reintroducing that shortly.
      • Yes there ill be a timed/configurable auto logout and this was occurring previously but one of my recent releases threw that off so I have to fix this. Known bug.

We are an eclectic bunch, that's for sure. MangoLassi is an insanely active IT peer to peer professional community. Our conference is actually just wrapping up in NY so the site has been slow this week as lots of us were at the conference. People are heading back home today. The last stragglers are doing breakfast in a few hours.

It's about three years old and covers all IT topics (and a few other things, we are a goofy bunch.) This is a real IT pro community, so pretty technical and business oriented.

@BoardinJunky speaking of the conference wrapping up, there are a lot of great pics from the conference that you should check out. It was a blast and it's nice to be able to tie usernames to faces.

Definitely I want to explore it.

By the way, I am seeing some Sodium Help desk things and threads related to it here in ML, and tried to google but couldn't find any information about Sodium, where's the location (website) ?

      sodium.waxquixotic.com

The reason we aren't pushing that hard as of yet is simply due to the fact that it is in alpha. Once we hit a point where all the features are lined up and we've put a little effort into cleaning up the visual side I'm sure that we will put more effort into making it more publicly visible. (We also are planning on changing the name for SEO purposes)

Creating a Company by "Clicking Here" not working for me.

I have filled company name, abbrevation, admin email (means the email I want to register with ?), admin username (means the admin username I want ?)

No action when I clicked Submit and no errors shown.

Lovely. I'll be looking into it. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Will there be a chance to have the option to rename computers? I have about 10 right now that I need to update the computer name from the Win10 Default UID....

I spoke with @QuixoticJeremy about this and getting the Nickname feature is slated for release later today. That's the real issue that you are seeing, you are seeing the ID field and wanting to rename your ID, which would be very problematic. But the field for naming the computers yourself is not there yet, so that is coming later today. Then you can name them anything that you want for your own viewing purposes.

Oh - Nicknames are fine . but I was meaning that the hostname is Desktop-12345 and it needs to be changed to Dept-001-2017003a (Less than 15 characters).

Right now Sodium is just monitoring and helpdesk, there is no system management functionality - yet. If you need to change the hostname then you currently still need to log in to the system in question and actually change the hostname. Then Sodium will reflect the name change through the monitoring system.

      Major emphasis on "yet"
