What days are the panels? Will there be panels on Saturday?

Saturday is just a Hang Out/Networking day. The hope is to go to either Letchworth park or Niagara Falls (your votes decided). Lunch/dinner etc. This will be the really relaxed day of the conference. Not a necessity but fun none the less.

Depending on what I can get flights for, I'd bring my wife in for the weekend.

That would be awesome. If there are enough Wives that want to attend maybe I can set up something they would like as well for during the week days. Let me know if enough of you are bringing spouses along. I know that @ataylor14 would be willing to help me out with this one 🙂

I would love to bring my wife. She has wanted to go on my trips with me, but there is never a chance to do it . I always tell her there is nothing for her and she would be bored. If there was a bunch of spouses that could hang out together that would be cool. She wouldn't come to any of the actual classes, just after parties.

@fuznutz04 said in Tablet or small laptop for 1st grader:

So my oldest son is in first grade. He uses iPads at school for some apps that the school has. They also seem to work on android devices as well. I have a windows tablet that I was going to let him use, but the apps just aren't there for the windows OS. So, the question is:

What is a good option for him where I can have parental controls, etc for a decent price. I don't care about the OS. ( he already is on Linux Mint on an old PC I gave him) 🙂 Would an iPad be ok, or maybe a chrome book? Something else?

We use ipad for both our kids... figure best to stay close to the school for ease of use. I control their network access but would love more parental controls. Their may be something but I haven't looked hard for it.

I was looking at it more. It would seem he (my alum) works with\for Microsoft. I wasn't sure which part of the team he was on. I was just looking at placing a Kali build in a cloud instance then I saw this.

Vultr would work too, and be cheaper.

I'm don't use Azure or Vultr(tho I did take look at the latter the other day). I have systems running with profit bricks. I'm working on migrating more of my servers to Linux based systems.

Test out Vultr, it's cheap and good.
Thank you. I will take a deeper dive, I looked from the surface.

Just about to head down to the event. Been up for an hour. Great sunrise out there!

Anyone else noticing that the Internet here is no up to our needs?

Nope because I haven't joined their wifi yet.

Many hotels "are NOT up to anyone's needs" let alone a bunch of techies!!!

Same here, i really want to attend MangoCon 2017. If the dates fixed earlier, it will give me some time to plan and actually book tickets this time 🙂

I plan on going next year. Hopefully I can get work to pay for it but I may have to crash on someone's couch/split a room to make it more affordable.

I wouldn't mind a split, shoot you could even stop up here and car pool to the next one.

Should of mentioned it was an E-mail they opened on a Citrix Server that has mapped drives, but we told them to shut down before we found that out in case. But some of the new crypto's can do network scans and find open shares I believe

I knew they would scan networks and start the encryption process if they had the rights to do so on mapped drives.
I just don't know about how they would continue encryption after the "host" system was shutdown.

What security was on the affected workstation?

Pretty much zero hence it was shut down and replaced 😄 have a list of 15+ mchines so far that need replacing and then a further 30+ that need re-configuring/joining to the domain/AV/remote support tools etc.

Busy month or two for me as it's along side with getting new Citrix going moving 250 users to it and then Upgrading GP2010 to GP2015 😄

I was just rereading your first post again and this last one.

The affected system was off... Yet was encrypting data on your server?

      Or

Was the data written in the past while the offending system was on, and you just found it?

I just wondered I don't recall (In my limited memory or whatever else you wanna call it) a ransom-ware strain that infects a workstation and has the ability to "encrypt data on a network while (said workstation) is in an off state"

That would then indicate another system must be running the code, while purporting to be the "off workstation."

Just wondering, I know many things are possible.

Your driving past me today! What time are you rolling past Rome?

Hard to say. Oneish, I'd guess.

Hope you have a safe trip... Albeit a rather short one for you!

Sounds like your down by our family property. We almost were there this past weekend. But with the rain (possibility) we opted to stay home.

      What area is your property?

      Sorry where in our area?

We have property about an hour south of Rochester, near Houghton College
